From surviving deadlines, sleep deprivation, and “I’ll do it tomorrow” energy… the CSEAS family finally escaped for a healing summer trip.
Our visit to Preah Reach Troap Mountain was honestly the reset button we all needed after months of hard work and emotional damage from university life.
We laughing at the most random things, explored, survived the mountain stairs, and somehow became even louder in public. But beyond the chaos, this trip gave us peace, happiness, and memories that will stay with us forever ✨. Plus, this trip became more than just an outing. It became a memory we’ll carry forever 🫶 No meetings. No deadlines. Just fresh air, good vibes, and a lot of unforgettable moments 🌿☀️
Sometimes healing is not therapy… sometimes it’s just traveling with your favorite people, eating snacks, and bullying each other for fun 🤝😂
Thank you CSEAS family for making this trip so meaningful and fun. Core memories unlocked.

“Beyond Representation: Building the Next Era of Women’s Leadership in Cambodia.”
The AUPP Community for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) successfully conducted a meaningful event, “Beyond Representation: Building the Next Era of Women’s Leadership in Cambodia.” This event was a collaboration between CSEAS, a student club at the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP), and Women Peace Makers Organization (WPM), hosted at AUPP on March 17th, 2026. 🎓🤝✨
The event yielded key insights and sparked discussions about the role of women's leadership and decision-making, particularly highlighting gender equality in Cambodian women's participation in politics. From this crucial event, participants gained valuable perspectives from our distinguished panel of experts, including Ms. Cheng Chinneth, Director of the Gender Equality Department at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs; Ms. Suyheang Kry, Executive Director of Women Peace Makers; and Ms. Rotvatey Sovann, a gender and social inclusion consultant. 🎤👩⚖️🌍
Your presence was truly an honor for our club. On behalf of CSEAS, we would like to thank all participants, including panelists, professors, and students, for joining our event. We also extend our gratitude to our moderator, Prof. Marc Piñol Rovira , for leading a discussion that was both engaging and memorable. 🙏👏
Last but not least, we wish you all the best, prosperity, and continued success. We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming event. 🌟💐📅

Behind the scenes with our CSEAS family our heart overflows. 💙 Every photo holds a story: the quiet hands arranging name tags, the comforting smiles before the doors opened, the shared jokes that cut through late-night nerves, and the steady presence when challenges came. You guys gave not just time, but pieces of yourselves within your courage, care, and conviction, so others could find their voices. Watching you work, support one another, and celebrate every small win reminded that this is more than a student club. We are family.
To every member who stayed up late, lent a shoulder, cheered a speaker on, or simply showed up: thank you. Because of you, “Beyond Representation: Building the Next Era of Women’s Leadership in Cambodia.” became a space of hope, strength, and real change. These moments will stay with us forever. 📸✨❤️

Community for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) | Local Ground Market Fair 2026 🇰🇭✨
On March 12, 2026, our CSEAS Club proudly joined the Local Ground Market Fair 2026, an exciting event that brought together inspiring Cambodian entrepreneurs, growing local brands, and vibrant cultural performances. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to celebrate and share the beauty of Khmer culture with the community.🤩
At our booth, we were delighted to serve two beloved Cambodian traditional treats: Num Kralan 🎍(នំក្រឡាន) and Nem Kratie 🐟 (ណែមក្រចេះ). It was a joy to see visitors stopping by our booth, trying these traditional flavors, and learning more about Cambodian snacks. Moments like these remind us how food can connect people and celebrate culture together.
A brief overview of Num Kralan & Nem Kratie
Num Kralan is a sticky rice cake roasted inside bamboo, sealed with a coconut shell or banana leaf, and grilled. The name of Kralan comes from the Kola ethic minority of Burma, who settled in Pailin Province. While Naem Kratie is a fermented fish paste wrapped in banana leaves, originally a way to preserve fish, now a flavorful delicacy that reflects the rich, balanced tastes of Khmer cuisine.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported us and took part in making the Local Ground Market Fair 2026 a wonderful celebration of Khmer culture and local products!❤️

December 20, 2025
On 18 December 2025, AUPP Community for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS), in collaboration with the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), organized "No Consent," a public event held at the ECCC.✨
The event included a screening of "Red Marriage" (2012), a documentary co-directed by Lida Chan and Guillaume Suon that documents the experiences of survivors of forced marriage during the Khmer Rouge regime. The film premiered at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam, where it was awarded Best Mid-Length Documentary.🎬
Beyond the screening, participants visited the No Consent exhibition, guided by ECCC experts who explained each piece of the display. The audience also actively engaged in scenario-based activities, reflecting on the meaning of consent by identifying situations as “no consent”, “partial consent”, or “total freedom”.
This event aimed to raise awareness of the struggles civilians faced under forced marriage policies and to encourage critical reflection on consent, justice, and memory.
We would like to sincerely thank the ECCC and the GIZ for their meaningful collaboration, as well as participants who joined us, engaged in the discussions, and helped keep these stories heard and remembered.

Today, members of our AUPP Community for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) are excited to join the IRENA IACT Workshop! 🌱✨
Our very member Nhim Chhouby is presenting at this important event, focusing on green and renewable energy solutions to drive positive transformation in Cambodia. This workshop highlights that young Cambodians are ready to lead the energy transition and advance our nation towards the global net-zero goal.
CSEAS had the privilege of visiting the exhibition on forced marriage at the ECCC Resource Center!✨
Our students took this meaningful opportunity to learn more about Cambodia’s history and the lasting impact of the Khmer Rouge era.
We also got the chance to step inside the ECCC building — exploring the library and courtroom. Huge thanks to His excellency Pich Ang for the warm welcome, guidance, and inspiring presentation! 💫
It was truly an enriching and eye-opening experience for all of us.

CSEAS | Water Festival Celebration!
Today, our CSEAS Club proudly joined in the Water Festival celebration! We shared two of Cambodia’s traditional favorites: Num Kralan (នំក្រឡាន) and Naem Kratie (ណែមក្រចេះ).
A brief overview of Num Kralan & Naem Kratie
Num Kralan is a sticky rice cake roasted inside bamboo, sealed with a coconut shell or banana leaf, and grilled. The name of Kralan comes from the Kola ethic minority of Burma, who settled in Pailin Province. While Naem Kratie is a fermented fish paste wrapped in banana leaves — originally a way to preserve fish, now a flavorful delicacy that reflects the rich, balanced tastes of Khmer cuisine. From the fragrant coconut in Num Kralan to the tangy aroma of Nem kratie, every bite tells a story of Cambodian tradition and celebration.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported us and joined in commemorating this meaningful cultural festival!
Wishing everyone a joyful and Happy Water Festival!

Last But Not Least
To wrap up Spring 2025 at AUPP, CSEAS held a certification ceremony where the Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Heads, and Members of CSEAS gathered to receive their hard-earned, well-deserved certificates of appreciation and participation. Though not everyone was present, everyone’s spirit was there, cheering each other on like close friends would.
Thank you so much everyone for your hard work. Let’s make CSEAS even better next semester.

Throwback to Together We Remember
After months and countless meeting minutes dedicated to brainstorming and planning for Together We Remember, its remarkable success has become one of CSEAS's biggest achievements. Together We Remember is our memorialization effort towards past global genocides—to remind us of what we lost, to remind us of what humans are capable of, and especially to remind us to never let it happen again.
It was our best effort to bring forth 7 of the world's genocides to the grounds of AUPP through infographic and video exhibitions, which included the following:
• The Native American Genocide
• The Holocaust
• The Khmer Rouge
• The Darfur Genocide
• The Armenian Genocide
• The Bosnian Genocide
• The Rwandan Genocide
Furthermore, as proud Cambodians, we also localized the memorialization to include other impactful activities, including:
• A film screening of The Last Reel
• A panel discussion on "Forgiveness and Reconciliation After Genocide"
• An educational field trip to the Choeung Ek Killing Fields
Although hosted a few months ago, this post serves to remind us that it's never too late to do the right thing—and that our efforts, even small ones, could make the world a better and safer place.
