Integrated communication refers to the use of a combination of many communication tools and strategies that work together to allow educators and students to effectively collaborate with each other, keep students engaged in learning, and enhance the overall learning experience. The technology tools for communication can include things such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams for student-student interaction as well as for collaboration between students and teachers. We all remember how critical these tools became during the COVID-19 pandemic as they allowed for learning to continue mostly uninterrupted. Learning Management Systems are also a useful communication tool and these soared in use during the pandemic as well. Many high school and college students were already familiar with these, however they quickly became the go-to for elementary and even preschool classes for online learning.
Another important aspect of integrated technology is multimodal communication. When using audio, video, text, and interactive tools, learning can be greatly enhanced and allow students to have choice in how they design and present projects, leading to increased engagement. This can be useful for teachers in designing lessons and also allow for creativity and personalization for student projects.
Integrated communication allows for students and teachers to stay connected in an interactive learning environment efficiently. Through the use of these tech tools, students will develop effective communication skills that will help them be successful in the future.
Tech Play Blog
This is my Tech Play blog that I utilized for many classes. This was my first experience with blogging and I feel that I became more comfortable with sharing my thoughts and experiences each time I posted. Blogging turned out to be an informal way for me to share my journey with the many tech tools I have explored, as well as to "talk" through and reflect on my experiences. The Makerspace Arduino challenge blog posts were especially challenging for me. I was able to use pictures, videos, audio, and text to document and communicate my explorations each week. It was an effective way to get feedback from others when the challenges almost became too much, and a way to celebrate each and every minor success along the way. My favorite thing about this blog is that I can look back on where I started and see how far I have come in my educational technology journey. Without this blog, I likely would have forgotten the details of many of these experiences.
ETEC 568 Makerspace Proposal
This Makerspace Proposal showcases my ability to use various technology tools to communicate ideas with others. It is a presentation pitching my idea for a makerspace that I designed. My favorite part about his project is that we were able to design a space that would best suit our school and present it in a format of our choosing. There were many steps to this proposal including first learning what a makerspace is and then researching other effective spaces to determine the equipment, supplies, and resources that should be included. After creating a mission statement specifically for my makerspace, I researched the many benefits and opportunities that a well-designed and fully-equipped makerspace can offer to students in order to enhance their education. I was then able to use online tools to layout and design the floor plan for the space. I feel that this proposal demonstrates my ability to clearly communicate my ideas with school and community stakeholders in order to gain their support.
ETEC 528 Digital Story
Of all the projects I completed throughout my journey in educational technology, my digital story is my absolute favorite and I am excited to share it with you here. The creation of this story utilizes audio, video, and text to share a personal story that I created. It was a big challenge to put together as I did not have previous experience in creating projects such as this and I am proud of how it turned out. I learned many planning, design, and communication skills throughout this process. Recording the audio was the most difficult part of the story and it took many retakes to get it just he way I wanted. I am proud of the story I captured as it has deep personal meaning to me and will be something that I look back on fondly.
Also included is my digital story design document where I originally began the layout and design process of my story and script before using digital tools to produce the complete multi-media story.
ETEC 527 Technology Multimedia Presentation
This presentation is an evaluation of Canvas and Little Bird Tales. The purpose of this project was to select, evaluate, and incorporate learning technologies into classroom instruction. Canvas can be utilized to deliver full courses and Little Bird Tales can be an engaging program for individual student instructional activities.
I created this presentation very early in my Ed Tech journey, so it is a little "rough around the edges" however it shows my growth in effectively communicating ideas using technology, as my more recent work is much more refined.
Also included is my project proposal that provides an overview of my intended project and the components I planned to include.
