Design and Technology
“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.”

This Design and Technology section of my eportfolio demonstrates how I have integrated technology into designing lessons and activities that are ready to implement in classrooms. It also highlights my abilities to design, plan and develop strategies for successful technology integration in educational programs at multiple grade levels. Throughout the design process of these projects, I utilized skills such as collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking; all necessary skills that I seek to teach my own students each day. As I worked to refine these lessons, I tested them out by having coworkers engage in the process as if they were students and provide critique from both a teacher and student perspective. After implementing the lessons in classrooms, I reflected on how students engaged with the activities and made final revisions based on their reviews.
ETEC 526 Game Design Project
This game design project was a collaborative effort with several of my classmates in ETEC 526, Games and Simulations for Learning. My group designed an educational game based on the children's board game, "Guess Who?" Our game is "EduGuess Who?" and is created to help young students learn and recall facts about many topics including community helpers, animals, holidays, book characters, or a topic of the student's choosing. Students will develop clue cards based on their selected topic and then take turns playing each group's game. My group members and I collaborated to develop a game Instructional Design Document and to create a Google Slides presentation with instructions for students to complete their own games.
ETEC 594 Design Project: Inquiry-Based Learning Experience
I collaborated with a classmate to create this inquiry-based learning experience for high school students using Book Creator. Using inquiry-based instructional methods and technology, we developed this problem-based learning opportunity for students. We created the instructional materials, central problem scenario, timeline and expectations for students to create a podcast segment about opportunities they may choose to pursue after high school graduation, including college, trade school, or joining the workforce. Creating this project was very meaningful because many students at Aldine High School seem unaware of the abundance of choices they have regarding their futures. We hope to provide them with an authentic learning experience that they can share with their classmates and learn from each other as they research and explore opportunities for life after high school.
ETEC 528 Digital Storytelling Rubric
I designed this rubric to evaluate digital storytelling assignments created by students. It was developed and updated throughout the ETEC 528 course based on researching the required elements of a digital story and utilizing peer feedback on my content and rubric design. This artifact showcases my ability to design a comprehensive digital storytelling rubric to meet the needs of assessing student work.
ETEC 568 Maker Space Floor Plan
This makerspace floor plan was designed as part of my Makerspace Proposal project and was created using Canva. Before designing this floor plan, I had only used Canva for creating flyers and newsletters for my classroom. Working to design this space allowed me to use my creativity as I explored all the exciting things I would want to include in a makerspace specifically designed for elementary aged students.
ETEC 593 Strategic Plan for Technology Integration
This Technology Strategic Plan was completed over the course of six weeks. Each week we focused on a different aspect of the process, including how to write mission and vision statements, analyze data, develoop goals and strategies, conduct a SWOT Analysis, and create an action plan. Throughout this process I learned about the importance of each component of a strategic plan to ensure it is comprehensive and includes measurable steps to optimize success in achieving the overall goals of the plan in an efficient manner.
This is the link to my Strategic Planning for Technology Integration class ePortfolio. It contains all of the planning components that went in to creating the overall strategic plan for Armstrong Elementary.
ETEC 596 Technology Initiative Plan
I developed this Learning Technology Assessment Plan to evaluate technology devices to include in elementary classrooms as part of a 1:1 device initiative. Throughout the process of developing this plan, I learned about the many aspects of planning for technology that are necessary to ensure all areas are considered and evaluated. I also learned the importance of identifying goals, indicators, benchmarks, and measures to maintain the focus of the initiative and to track progress toward the established goals. This 1:1 device initiative will be a huge investment for the school, so ensuring all aspects are considered and accurately assessed will lead to success with plan implementation.
