Opening note
For fifteen years, ATH has brought together diverse communities connected through the performing arts.
This vision led to the opening of an independent theatre in Tay Ho, a space that quickly became more than a venue: a meeting point, a home for artists, audiences, and creation.
Soon, this place will be demolished.
What is at stake is not a building, it is the future of independent live performance in Hanoi.
ATH has chosen to transform — and we want to live this transformation with you.
Why does this theatre matter?
Hanoi still lacks a permanent independent theatre that is both open and sustainable. Many spaces exist, but most operate in closed circles, centred around one artist, one organisation, or short-term use, with little continuity for the wider independent scene.
Yet artists continue to create.
Audiences continue to gather.
Communities continue to grow,
without a place that truly belongs to them.
This project exists to change that.
It proposes a theatre that is open to:
multiple disciplines (theatre, music, dance, hybrid forms);
diverse aesthetics (classical and contemporary);
Vietnamese and international artists;
risk, experimentation and long-term artistic work.

What are we building?
A small, flexible black box theatre in Hanoi, designed for long-term use and shared artistic purpose.
The space will include:
a modular performance space;
basic technical infrastructure (lighting, sound, seating);
rehearsal and workshop capacity;
areas for gathering, discussion and transmission.
The theatre will host:
independent performances and festivals;
artist residencies and research;
workshops and public programmes;
community and educational events.
ATH will own the theatre to guarantee its long-term stability, while actively opening the stage to independent artists.
This is more than a theatre.
It is an ecosystem.
