Richmond, Virginia-based eclectic bunch, Asylum 213, release their essential debut as a full-fledged band, Malpracticioner, on December 13th, 2024. Recorded with Joey Woodard of Fisher King Records.
Having begun as a solo project out of the mind of singer/guitarist Dylan Lawson in 2010, the band sees a full formation as Marvin “Silky Piper” Ward (keytar, backing vocals), Dexy Collier (bass), and Benjamin Pilch (drums) join the fold, offering both creative and exceptional talents to a carefully crafted amalgamation of raw emotions, sonic intricacies, and the noisiest way of telling a story possible.
Malpracticioner spans 10 tracks of both fun and perilous personal experiences told literally and metaphorically, with the underlying message that, as Dylan Lawson puts it, “no matter how dark things get, that small glimmer of light you have at the end of the day is always worth maintaining”. A meditation on the human tendency to cope with life in strange ways, both good and bad for the individual in question, the album generates a relatable perspective that regardless of how simultaneously pretty and ugly a healing process may be; It’s always worth coming out on the other side, with a better mind, open eyes, and the pursuit of recovery.
"It is an alternative-rock release complete with engaging performances, magnetic melodies and punchy production." (FV Music Blog, 2024)
