Hunting the Heavens, or HtH, was pitched in as a part of the festivities of National Science Day, 28 February 2019. The erstwhile secretary of the science council discussed with IBAC members about an event that may be hosted by the astronomy club. Parth Nayak came up with the idea of a competition, much like a Messier Marathon, wherein the participants (in teams) will have to solve riddles in order to identify certain celestial bodies visible at that time in the night sky. They will have to spot those objects using binoculars and then using the 6" Dobby.
Interestingly, the maiden event did not have a name. Nonetheless, the competition witnessed huge participation from the student community. The first-ever competition hosted by IBAC was a great success. The winning team was "Gaddar", Shreyansh Agarwal and Aditi Krishak (BS-MS 2016). Thereafter, this event was included in the institute's one-and-only science fest, Singularity 2019. It was given the name "Hunting the Heavens" by its creator, Parth Nayak.
We have been successful in conducting HtH in previous Singularity events. The winning team last year were 'Shooting Starz', Girish, Shreyas, Soumik, Rachit.
