AstroHabesha is a student-led educational initiative focused on making astronomy and space science accessible to students in Ethiopia. It was created to inspire curiosity, strengthen scientific thinking, and give young learners opportunities to explore the universe beyond the classroom.
We believe that space science is not only for experts—it is for every student who is curious about the sky, stars, planets, and the laws that govern the universe.
Sibhat Abay
Co-Founder and Lead Coordinator
Sibhat Abay is the founder and lead coordinator of AstroHabesha. He is responsible for overall program planning, coordination of training activities, and development of the initiative’s educational vision. He leads communication with partners and oversees the expansion of astronomy education programs.

IASC Coordinator – Debre Zeit
Akiya Yirgashewa coordinates AstroHabesha activities in Debre Zeit. He supports the organization of student sessions, manages local coordination efforts, and helps ensure smooth delivery of astronomy learning programs within his region.

Where We Are Based
Where We Are Based
AstroHabesha is based at Haile-Manas Academy, Ethiopia. From this academic institution, our team carries out the planning, coordination, and development of astronomy education programs in a structured and organized manner.
In addition to our base of operation, AstroHabesha collaborates with coordinators in multiple cities across Ethiopia to expand access to astronomy learning. Through this network, we are able to deliver both in-person and online educational opportunities to students in different regions, supporting the growth of science education nationwide.
