This module aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge and competency in power systems fault analysis, as well as in protection system design and operation to ensure power system reliability and safety. The course is delivered in a technology-enabled learning mode using industry-standard electrical power system analysis and operation simulation software. The course content covers the following three main knowledge areas:
Fault analysis of power systems
Operating principles of protection devices and circuits

This module aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge to the causes and characteristics of different power quality and reliability problems commonly encountered in power system networks, and their effects on the networks. Students will also learn about the different technologies that are used by industries to mitigate power quality and reliability problems. The module is delivered in a technology-enable learning mode using industry-standard electrical power system analysis and operation simulation software. The course contents cover four main knowledge topics:
Concept of power quality and reliability
Voltage fluctuations and variations
Harmonic distortions
Power quality and reliability improvement techniques
This module aims to provide students with knowledge on how stable and economic operations of power systems are achieved and knowledge on protection system design and operation to ensure power system reliability and safety. The module is delivered in a technology-enabled learning mode using industry-standard test equipment and electrical power system analysis and operation simulation software. The course contents cover the following four main knowledge topics:
Active power and frequency control
Reactive power and voltage control
Analysis of unsymmetrical faults
General protection principles
