PARTICIPATING IN ASLAN EVENTS
After Sunset LAN (ASLAN) is a family and community centered computer gaming event. Our mission is multifaceted and includes both gaming as a positive outlet and giving within the community. We feel strongly that computer gaming, both casual and competitive, increases access and equity to technology, builds character within participants, and improves citizenship within our community. During each ASLAN event, we want to ensure that all participants feel safe and welcome. For this reason, each participant must agree to the ASLAN Code of Conduct prior to participating in the event. Violation of any part of the Code of Conduct may result in immediate removal from an ASLAN event without a refund, and depending upon the type of violation, may result in further legal action being taken by law enforcement and/or the event host.
Please inform ASLAN volunteers and/or Bluepeak Staff if you witness or observe any participant who is in violation of the Code of Conduct. Alternatively, if you don't feel comfortable speaking with ASLAN Volunteers or Bluepeak Staff, you may report anonymously using the link provided below.
ACTS OF VIOLENCE
There is a zero-tolerance policy for carrying out acts of violence while attending any ASLAN event. Acts of violence include physical, vocal, and emotional harm. Examples include but aren’t limited to damage to the venue/event space and its equipment and/or property, damage to any attendee’s property or belongings, use of language (in-person or online) which is perceived to be hateful, malicious, degrading, or discriminatory. Acts of violence qualify for immediate removal from the event without a refund.
NOTE: Although not considered an act of violence on its own, please refrain from using vulgar language at the event. This is a family and community event and minors are present. Foul language will not be tolerated and may result in being asked to leave the event.
WEAPONS
Weapons of any kind are not permitted at the event. This includes play/toy weapons, and other items, which may be used to cut/slash/stab, as well as projectile objects which have the potential to cause harm to others, including personal belongings, equipment, or the venue/event space.
DRUGS & ALCOHOL
Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited while attending the event. This includes the use of tobacco in its various forms within the venue/event space, such as cigarettes, e-cigarettes, vaping, and chew. Partaking in or distributing drugs or alcohol will result in removal from the event and may result in additional action being taken by local law enforcement.
SOFTWARE & DIGITAL ARTIFACTS
Illegal activity, including but not limited to copying and/or distribution of illegal software and or digital artifacts is strictly prohibited. Each individual is responsible for the software, digital artifacts, and copyright laws associated with objects located on their computer/machine. ASLAN volunteers and Bluepeak staff will not actively police computers/machines or monitor network traffic to identify illegal software or stolen digital artifacts, however, activity that is caught or reported is grounds for removal from the event. Additionally, torrents and other major download platforms will not be permitted at an ASLAN event.
As common courtesy, please reference the games list and download and install necessary games prior to the event (view the Schedule on the ASLAN website). This will help to ensure that the network remains open and available for gaming purposes.
Furthermore, there is a zero-tolerance policy for pornographic material at the event. Distribution and/or viewership of pornographic material will result in immediate removal. Additionally, making pornographic material viewable and or accessible to minors is illegal and will result in involvement from local law enforcement.
CHEATING
Cheating is not permitted while attending an ASLAN event. Cheats include, but aren’t limited to codes, exploits, network modifications, etc., which may provide an unfair advantage. If you are caught cheating during a tournament, your entry in the tournament will be forfeit and you will be disqualified from all remaining tournaments.
REFUNDS
Entrance fees to all ASLAN events are used as donations to a designated local charity within the community. For attendees who are asked to leave the event due to violation of this waiver, a refund will not be issued. Refunds may be considered for participants who abide by the policies outlined within this waiver, however, given the entrance fee is a charitable donation, we kindly ask that you reconsider asking for a refund.
PERSONAL PROPERTY
Participants accept all risk, including damage and/or destruction, to their personal items while attending ASLAN events, including transporting hardware and equipment to and from the venue/event space.
Be aware, that all participants will be required to check-in their computer/machine (i.e., desktop/tower, laptop, monitor/screen) prior to participating in an ASLAN event and will also be required to check-out their registered equipment before leaving the venue/event space with their computer/machine.
PERSONAL PROPERTY (ELECTRIC AGREEMENT)
Basic surge protection is provided during ASLAN events and surge protectors are inspected prior to each event. Each participant will be granted two (2) outlets during an ASLAN event. Typically, this is enough for a monitor and computer tower or laptop. Additional outlets for secondary equipment are not guaranteed and often these secondary devices place unnecessary strain and demand on the electric grid. For this reason, please leave secondary devices at home.
Be aware that participants accept all risk to their machine, including damage or destruction resulting from power surges and other types of electrical activity while attending ALSAN events.
NOTE: Although we will try our best to prevent electrical issues, we do not control the electrical circuits, nor monitor the power draw from each connected device. For this reason, we recommend using an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) while attending ASLAN events.
