Introduction
This Participation Waiver is designed for students registering with the Association of Shotokan Karate (ASK). By signing this document, you acknowledge the inherent risks of martial arts training and agree to the terms of participation.
I understand that Shotokan Karate is a physical martial art involving vigorous exercise, body contact, and the use of various techniques that carry an inherent risk of injury. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my (or my child's) participation in ASK classes, including but not limited to falls, contact with other participants, and the physical demands of training.
I confirm that the participant is in good physical health and has no medical conditions that would prevent safe participation in karate training.
I agree to abide by the ASK Code of Conduct. I understand that following the instructor's safety directions is mandatory to ensure a safe training environment for all students.
I hereby release and hold harmless Association of Shotokan Karate (ASK), its instructors, and its affiliates from any and all liability, claims, or causes of action arising out of any injury or loss suffered during club activities.
Participation Consent: I confirm that I have read and agree to this Participation Waiver.
Data Protection: I consent to ASK using my email address for essential club communications (grading dates, event notices, etc.).
Code of Conduct
Club: Kessinglan Shotokan Karate Club
1. Purpose
The Association of Shotokan Karate (ASK) upholds traditional Shotokan Karate aligned with Kase-Ha principles.
All members must demonstrate respect (Reigi), discipline, humility, and self-control.
2. General Member Responsibilities
Hold a valid ASK Licence.
Follow dojo etiquette (Reishiki) at all times.
Respect instructors, seniors, and fellow members.
Represent ASK positively at all times.
3. Safety & Welfare
Sign in at the start of each lesson
Parents not intending to stay must leave contact information.
Members must inform instructors of injuries or medical conditions.
Unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.
Karateka must report all training related accidents to the lesson instructor(s).
Do not train if you feel unwell.
4. Training Standards
Train regularly with effort, sincerity and control
Wear a clean karate gi.
Remove jewellery before training.
No smoking, alcohol, or drugs before or during training.
5. Conduct & Behaviour
Use respectful language.
No aggressive or disruptive behaviour.
Accept instruction respectfully.
6. Dojo Etiquette (Reishiki)
Bow on entering and leaving the dojo.
Bow to instructor and partner.
Maintain discipline and focus.
Ask for permission from the instructor before exiting training.
7. Attendance & Communication
Attend regularly and inform instructors of absence.
Follow correct communication procedures.
Follow the correct lesson sign in/out procedure for your club
8. Junior Members (under 16’s)
Remain in the dojo until collected.
Maintain discipline while waiting.
Code of Conduct for Parents & Guardians
Encourage participation without pressure.
Support instructors and officials.
Promote respect and discipline.
Do not use abusive language.
Turn all phones to silent and do not make/take calls within the dojo.
9. Safeguarding
ASK instructors have a zero tolerance approach for bullying, harassment, or discrimination.

10. Agreement
All members must agree to uphold this Code of Conduct before commencing training.
