The office of the school prefect is the highest office that can be held by a student. It is limited to the senior students, i.e. Form 4 and 5. In exceptional cases, a student from the junior student body (Forms 1 - 3) may be considered. The office dictates that exemplary behavior which is value-centered, combined with academic persistence and social, emotional and spiritual responsibility to be displayed at all times. Holders of the office are the leaders and ambassadors of the school who display to the wider community the message inherent in the school's Vision, Mission Statement and Motto.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Possesses a student record that reflects positive entries.
Has shown persistent adherence to ALL school rules and regulations.
Has shown willingness to accept responsibility.
Has shown initiative in developing school improvement plans.
Be a member of school clubs and/or involved in extra-curricular activities.
Demonstrates the ability to correct/make corrections without fear of opposition.
To monitor student behavior in and out of the school's compound.
To monitor student adherence to school's uniform/dress code.
To oversee the supervision of classes in he absence of teachers.
To monitor the functioning of the class prefects in all of the year groups.
To liaise between the student body and staff.
To report incidents of any nature - positive or negative - to members of staff.
To effectively coordinate school programmes and student activities.
To ensure that guests/guest speakers are properly welcomed and treated with dignity.
To competently represent the school at selected events.
Any related duty as determined by the committee in charge.
School prefects have the authority to:
Approach any student in uniform, whether in or out of the school's compound, should it be necessary.
Request of any student, the removal of accessories that are not in conformity with the school's uniform.
Record and report to teachers any breach of school rules by students in or out of the school's compound.
Prefect badge. Holders of these offices will be responsibly for the care and maintenace of the badges.
The office of the school prefect can be revoked if the performance of the individual is not up to standard.
Candidates for the post will be interviewed by a panel of teachers.
Testimony of school prefects will be taken into consideration in the disciplining of students.
The criteria for the selection of prefects in the following categories is similar to those in the office of the school prefect.
The Auditorium Prefect ensures an orderly entrance/exit to/from the auditorium. She also assists in ensuring that appropriate behaviours is displayed at all times.
The auditorium prefect:
Takes up her assigned position in the auditorium before entry/exit of the student body.
Ensures an orderly entrance and exit
Assists in furniture arrangement should such become necessary
Conducts daily checks to ensure that the auditorium is not being misused by students.
The overall responsibility of a cafeteria prefect is to ensure that all students are comfortably served. She must therefore oversee the following:
That lines are maintained.
That complaints from students and/or cafeteria personnel are addressed and forwarded to teachers in charge, if necessary.
That students do not loiter after the bell has gone to end break/lunch.
Ensures that:
Students join the late line whenever they are late.
Late students sign the corect time of arrival
Minutes late for each student is tallied at the end of the week (Friday at break/lunch)
Weekly lunch time detention for all students is arranged.
Students are at all times monitored during detention.
Order marks are tallied for the houses.
Class prefects take the late books to class assembly.
House Captains take the late books to House Assembly.
Prefects MUST liaise with teachers in charge either weekly or as necessary.
The overall responsibility of the lunch prefect is to ensure that school lunches are distributed quickly. Monitoring of the roll is also her responsibility. The lunch prefect ensures the following:
That students form lines to collect lunches.
That roll call is conducted.
That teachers are informed of any irregularities.
That students collect lunches in the shortest possible time.
That any complaints are forwarded to the teacher in charge.
That boxes are properly discarded.
