Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Ashlyn, and I am a Master of Science in Historic Preservation candidate at Columbia University. I am originally from Thompsons Station, Tennessee, and I received both of my undergraduate degrees in Historic Preservation & Community Planning and Classics from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. During this time, I also completed two minors in Urban Studies and Art History. 

I am currently seeking a full-time position in Washington, D.C. or the surrounding areas. 

Most recently, I have worked as an architectural conservator intern at Jablonski Building Conservation (JBC) in New York, where I have contributed to the completion of condition assessments, material analyses, and project reports. This opportunity has allowed me to further develop my passion for hands-on learning. As a master's student, I have also been able to familiarize myself with a variety of software, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Blender, MeshMixer, Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe, and AutoCAD.

During my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to participate in four wonderful internships in the Charleston area. The first of these positions was at the Preservation Society of Charleston, where I worked as an intern in the Advancements and Fall Tours department. In this role, I wrote historic house histories for the organization's annual fall tours. I also had the chance to work with the Charleston Library Society in their Bindery and Conservation Lab as an intern. Here, I learned the methodology of material conservation, specifically related to parchment and leather. Additionally, at the Powder Magazine Museum, I acquired skills related to graphic design, public speaking, and museum operations. Finally, at the Records Management Division for the City of Charleston, I learned the process of digitalization and metadata creation for historic materials. 

These internships may seem extremely varied; however, my goal is to acquire as much knowledge within the field of preservation as possible through the exploration of the different entities. These experiences and deliverables have been highlighted in this portfolio. I hope you enjoy these projects, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
