This lesson was developed during my student teaching experience in the Spring of 2024. Dakota Prairie just introduced a phonics curriculum this year, 2023-2024. The phonics curriculum is called Sonday. I would say that phonics is the learners least favorite part of the day, but it is so beneficial. I was learning all of the phonics rules right alongside of them and I wished that I would have had it when I was in school. Not only do we have a whole group phonics, we also have a phonics intervention group that I have been leading every other week since the start of the Spring semester. I have loved watching the children grow their knowledge with the use of the Sonday Phonics Curriculum!
I developed this lesson plan in the Spring of 2024 during my student teaching experience. This lesson focused on plant traits and how there can be many variations of a plant, but still be related. They had some knowledge coming in about plant traits because the week before we talked about animal traits. This lesson is very hands-on and engaging, which the kids loved.
During my student teaching experience, I developed this lesson plan for my third grade students to learn about fractions as numbers. This lesson was one out of the seven that was used for my work sample. This lesson focused on splitting regions into equal parts and identifying what a unit fraction is. This lesson made students understand why a fraction has to have equal parts and how each part is a unit of the fraction.
In the Spring of 2024, I developed this lesson plan during my student teaching experience. In the class that I was placed in, we did a lot of small group rather than whole group. For this lesson, we read the book "The Bird That Cannot Fly." We start a new book every Monday and on Friday they write a prompt based on the ELA skill we are learning that week. The ELA skill that we were working on was identifying text features. Throughout the week as we were reading the book, they had to point out to me different text features and why they help us. This specific lesson was for a Friday, which is our writing prompt day. They had to write two sentences about a text feature that they found in our book and why they can help us when reading a story.
I developed this lesson plan in the Fall of 2023 for my Practicum. This Language Arts lesson plan focuses on writing a personal narrative. What I taught about personal narratives we focused on voice. Voice in writing is the unique style, personality or perspective of a piece of writing. The fifth graders took what they learned about voice and added it to their personal narratives.
I developed this lesson plan in the Fall of 2023 for my Practicum. This is my first lesson plan for Social Studies that I developed and implemented in the classroom. This Social Studies lesson plan was about the Spanish Colony. The students interacted well with this lesson and it was great to see what it was like to teach a Social Studies lesson.
I developed this lesson during my Science Methods course in the Fall of 2023. This lesson is aligned with an NGSS standard as well as an Engineering standard to meet the requirements for a STEM lesson plan. In this lesson, the students are learning about animals working together in groups and how that is beneficial. During this lesson, the students are also able to create a model of a habitat for their chosen animal.
I developed this lesson plan in my Math Methods class during the Fall of 2023. This lesson is for Kindergarten and it aligns with the South Dakota Math Standard K.CC.6 and a few SD Math Practice Standards as well. The students are working on gaining the understanding of one-to-one correspondence.
I developed this lesson plan for my Social Studies Methods course in the Fall of 2023. This lesson plan is about the Women's Suffrage Movement. The main part of this lesson was to make it exciting and interesting so that the students are engaged throughout the whole lesson.
I developed this lesson plan during my K-8 reading methods course in the Spring of 2023. This lesson works towards meeting a reading standard over a five day period. The standard focuses on reading with accuracy and fluency to support comprehension. I taught the first day of the lesson to a pretend audience using the teachnology tool Google Jamboard. This was my first multi-day lesson and I learned how to connect to knowledge from previous lessons.
I developed this lesson during my K-8 writing methods course in the Spring of 2023. This lesson meets one of the South Dakota writing standards that focuses on writing narratives. During this lesson, I created an anchor chart that can be utilized by the students while they complete independent work in the future. I learned that a mini lesson is a short 10-15 minute lesson that focuses on one skill. This mini lesson challanges me to focus on one learning goal at a time.
I developed this lesson plan during my practicum experience in the Spring of 2023. I was working with Mrs.Christensen in a 5th grade language arts classroom at Camelot Intermediate School. This was the first lesson that I had created in a classroom with the help of my mentor teacher, Mrs.Christensen. As I developed this lesson, I took into account what skills and content the students were currently working on. Although I did not teach this lesson to the students, I received feedback from Mrs.Christensen to help develop my lesson plan writing skills.
I developed this lesson plan in the Spring of 2023 for my practicum experience. I was working with Mrs. Harming in a 6th grade reading classroom. I wrote this lesson plan to tell 6th graders about the book, The Giver by Lois Lowry. I enjoyed telling them about this book because it was one of my favorites at their age. The students were very fascinated with the book and it was great to see them have an interest in reading. I received feedback from Mrs.Harming about my book talk which helped me to become more confident when talking with students as well as developing reading lesson plans.
I developed this health unit lesson plan in the Spring of 2023. Before I got into the unit plan, I was required to make lesson plans for each set of health standards. Making the different lesson plans prepared me for when I had to make a unit plan for the final. I had to have 5 lessons based off of one overall topic. I chose to do my unit health plan on mental health. I received feedback from my peers as well as my professor on each lesson which helped my lesson plan writing skills.
I developed this lesson plan during my student teaching experience in the Fishback Learning Center in the Fall of 2022. I was one of the lead teachers these two weeks. I worked cooperatively with the other lead teacher for the week to develop this lesson plan. At each center, we included a variety of materials for students to explore. While planning this lesson, we focused on the Reggio inspired set up of the Fishback Learning Center.
