My visual representation includes three main ideas regarding my journey towards reconciliation. The first is reciprocity, and the mountains and sky portray it in the background. Reciprocity is the term I use for learning about land use and acknowledgement. The second word in my image is interconnectivity, illustrated with circles. It represents the teachings I have learned through the medicine wheel and the importance of living a holistic life. The third and last word is invitation, symbolized by tobacco leaves. Invitation and tobacco reflect the importance of learning from elders, knowledge keepers and Indigenous ways of knowing and doing. I created my visual representation using Canva and started with the idea of using tobacco leaves to represent my journey. Tobacco has a connection to each part of my journey towards reconciliation. Tobacco is an excellent example of reciprocity as it is harvested from the land and also used as an offering back to the land. Tobacco is one of the four sacred plants in the medicine wheel teachings. Lastly, tobacco is offered to elders when inviting them to share their wisdom.
