To educate Open House attendees about CSED's work, I developed this engaging interactive presentation.
Developed independently, these passion projects demonstrate my commitment to refining my graphic design and UI/UX skills, and my desire to create impactful content that raises awareness.
This interactive HBCU map will allow people to explore the 100+ HBCUs in the U.S. located throughout 19 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each interactive element will open a window with links to the school's website and videos.
This Periodic Table of Black History contains 90 important African American people, both past and present. For each person on the periodic table you will find a video and link to a website for additional information. Take the time to connect and learn about the past and present to continue to motivate the future.
This Black History Month Digital Resource provides a day-by-day learning opportunity to gain knowledge about different topic in African American History and Culture. There is a different topic for each day of the month. Each topic of the day has a video and link to more information.
At TCC I worked as an e-Learning Instructional Designer and worked with SMEs to build the courses. I managed online learning projects from concept to completion, including curriculum design, Canvas LMS support, and accessibility compliance (WCAG). Collaborated with faculty to design engaging courses and professional development programs.
For both courses, I utilized my knowledge of UDL, WCAG standards, STEM accessibility, HTML coding, basic graphic design, Quality Matters Standards, and LaTex equation editor to design the course and produce a completed product. I was also the project manager for both courses and led weekly meetings with the SMEs.
To the left you will see screenshots of the courses built.
At the Virtual Learning Academy (VLA), I identified an opportunity to improve the success of our program by creating an orientation course for our students to go through. Our students participate in both traditional courses on their home campus as well as take virtual class with VLA. We also serve students outside of our district. I created the orientation course in Canvas to provide an opportunity to streamline our expectations and training in a way that holds those going through the course responsible for the skills and information needed to be a successful virtual student.
Teachers have seen an increase in student compliance and understanding in how to be a virtual student. Students are also becoming better equipped in using Canvas as an LMS.
To the right you will see some screenshots of the orientation course built in Canvas.
I developed and designed this professional development course designed to empower faculty with the knowledge and skills needed to leverage digital tools and effective instructional strategies based on John Hattie's research of Effect Size.
I led the instructional design of the course, contributing to its development by creating video content, designing graphics, and overseeing the overall course build.
In a traditional classroom, lesson plans are how teacher design their courses. However, in the virtual environment where courses are completely built from top to bottom, intentional strategic design is necessary. Below are four documents I created and adapted to guide teachers how to properly plan, design, write, and check their courses.
Course Design Process
The purpose of the course design process to provide a timeline and steps for teachers to design and write a course.
Course Design Mapping
This is where the real work starts. Breaking down the course piece by piece. This is just one type of course mapping document that can be used to help with organizing the course. This also provides a document to reference if the course needs to be revised in the future.
-This was also mapping document was also created as a Google Sheets Template for those who prefer spreadsheets.
Writing With a Narrative
Virtual courses often are text heavy and require intentional planning on how to engage students in the content. One way to do that is to write the course using a narrative. This document was provided to the teachers to show different ways narratives can be used in course design.
Demonstrating my commitment to community support and educational equity, I created the HBCU Harvest website to empower students and their families to successfully navigate the complex process of choosing, applying to, and funding their education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Leveraging my 17 years of experience as an educator and my M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling, the site provides a holistic model of support, focusing on Community, Culture, and Legacy.
This project included:
Strategic Planning and Content Development: Defined the mission and vision and structured the entire site around Personalized HBCU Matching, Application Guidance, and Financial Aid/Scholarship Assistance.
Graphic and Web Design: Developed a clear, intuitive site map and crafted engaging, culturally affirming content to introduce the organization and its value proposition.
Use of AI to Assist with Content and Design: Integrated a plan for cutting-edge AI features, including an AI-Powered "Finding Your Fit" Chatbot and an AI-Driven Scholarship Identification tool to ensure personalized, efficient guidance for every user.
Demonstrating my commitment to community support, I volunteer a full range of digital design services to assist a new dance studio opening in Fort Worth, TX.
This project included:
Graphic design for branding and marketing materials
Web design for optimized online presence
Creation of engaging social media content; effectively using Canva and AI tools to bring their vision to life and establish a cohesive digital presence
Graphic Design: Various Business Logos created in collaboration with Studio Owner using Canva
Graphic Design: Social media content created using Canva
Graphic Design: Example of Marketing Material using Canva
I designed and developed the complete website, including user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, and created all original content. This encompassed strategic content planning, copywriting, graphic design for visuals, and implementation of SEO best practices to ensure optimal online visibility and engagement. To explore emerging technologies, I also leveraged AI tools to assist in specific content creation tasks.
