Ashia Bedell

My interest in dentistry began in high school, where I first discovered my passion for healthcare, precision, and patient-centred care. As an Indigenous student from a rural community in Northern British Columbia, my journey into dental hygiene has been shaped by resilience, curiosity, and a strong commitment to giving back to my community.

Growing up with four younger sisters and one older brother, I am the oldest girl in my family and take pride in being a role model. This responsibility has strengthened my leadership skills, empathy, and ability to support and guide others qualities I bring into both my academic and clinical practice.

I have always enjoyed working with my hands and expressing creativity through jewelry making, macramé, sewing, painting, drawing, pottery, photography, scrapbooking, and stained glass. These artistic skills have translated naturally into dentistry, where attention to detail, fine motor skills, and precision are essential.

Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active through hiking, gym, weight lifting, Pilates, hot yoga, snowboarding, and tennis, as well as travelling, reading, and continually investing in my education.

Academically, I have maintained a strong record, earning Gold Honour Roll recognition throughout high school and during my dental hygiene studies. I graduated with both a Dual Dogwood Diploma and a Graduation Diploma (GDA) and am fluent in both English and French.

I am passionate about working with children, Indigenous communities, empowered women, and individuals from diverse backgrounds. My interests also include sales, volunteering, and travel, all of which allow me to connect meaningfully with others and expand my perspective. As I continue my journey in dentistry, my goal is to provide compassionate, culturally aware care while advocating for education, prevention, and accessible oral health for all.
