I first connected with Zig Zag Hub as I was developing a prototype for a product idea I'd had. The idea was to build a modular fingerboard skatepark that utilised magnets as its system of connection. My dad recommended them to me as a place that could help me bring this idea to life. After meeting with them and introducing my idea, I began a 10 week course to develop my business.
Amidst this 10 week course, they offered for me to participate in their first ever 'Young Eyes Festival of Innovation'. This festival was to take place at Wollongong Town Hall and would feature stalls from local small businesses as well as a pitch fest where young entrepreneurs were to pitch their business ideas in front of a panel of judges for the opportunity to be dubbed 'Young Entrepreneur of The Year'.
I had a superb time participating in this competition and connecting with Zig Zag Hub. I think my biggest takeaway from the experience is the importance of connecting with like-minded people when venturing into the business world. I will keep this in mind for future endeavours.
You can read more about this experience in my autobiographical memoir 'Lost in the Sauce'.
A few months after this festival, I began dabbling in a new business idea I'd had. The idea was to collect plastic bottles from participants and grant them points in exchange. Using my PETmachine, I would convert these plastic bottles into 3D printing filament and create objects out of them. These objects would be available both for purchase with money and points. The profit would be generated by garnering more points/dollars worth of filament on my end than the number of points I was exchanging for it.
I continued to meet with Zig Zag Hub as I developed this idea. They featuring me in an Instagram reel, where I spoke about my idea, and I participated in a pitching event they held. Around this time, I was offered a job reviewing their online courses. This would allows them to garner feedback from their target demographic to develop their courses inline with what customers wanted.
They were pleased with the feedback I gave on their courses, and soon had me implementing this feedback. After revising the currently available courses, I began working on a course from scratch, focusing on 'The Lean Startup Model' business methodology. After not too long, I completed this course and began working on a new course titled 'Intro to Javascript'. This was followed by the development of my courses.
I have now been working at Zig Zag Hub since August of 2023 and my duties have progressed to primarily involve software development as we put together our online learning platform. My duties have also included mentoring a Cambodian student in game development via Zoom and testing the feasibility of some of our online course ideas.
