CONSA, in partnership with Novo Nordisk, has recently established the Community Health Worker (CHW) Initiative, a new endeavor to support retention in the care efforts of children diagnosed with SCD. This 2.5-year project will prioritize recruiting and training community health workers to conduct different activities including:
Reaching out to families and educating them on coming back to clinical care.
Educating communities on the importance of newborn screening and clinical care for SCD.
Working to reduce stigma and misinformation about SCD.
The project will also be working with community-based organizations in the geographic areas of the CONSA catchment areas to support:
Wrap-around services
Community support groups
Education and awareness raising with key opinion leaders
