To create awareness regarding lifelong learning in South Asia, the ASEM Regional Centre for South Asia has been organising the Honourable ASEM Chair's South Asia Mission every year between November and January. This comprises of a diverse range of activities and events with various target groups and stakeholders including Conferences, seminars, workshops, panel discussions, field visits, high-profile meetings with political decision-makers, administrators, heads of institutions, advocacy groups, civil society actors working at the grassroot levels, researchers, and so on.. The activities and events can be formal, non-formal or informal and do not restrict to any specific disciplinary boundaries. There is no fixed format of these events. The Centre engages in whatever it can, to promote learning in most innovative ways. The ASEM LLL Hub Regional Centre for South Asia organises frequent guest lectures and discussion series on various themes to generate interest, create awareness, share knowledge and inspire learners for lifelong learning. Usually the content is research-based, aim at provoking the participants to think and reflect, and offers them support in learning. The speakers belong to different parts of the world, offering diverse perspectives. The sessions are online, open to everyone from all over the globe. They are delivered on Zoom and have a duration of 1.5 hours with about 45 minutes of lecture, panel discussion, interviews or any other form of knowledge exchange followed by questions and answers and discussion.

Promoting Lifelong Learning for women and girls is one of the cross-cutting themes of all ASEM Research Networks. The ASEM LLL Hub has joined hands with the UNESCO Institute of Lifelong Learning to work in this area. 

The ASEM Regional Centre for South Asia contributes to this through various projects and initiatives. During the Women's Day Celebration on the 8th of March every year, the Centre acknowledges  the work of one woman in promoting lifelong learning in South Asia and recognises her as the "Woman of the Year."

The choice of the candidate is done through a fair and transparent process with no fee or expenses involved on the part of the nominated candidates and the Awardee. The award is a genuine effort to promote lifelong learning among females and is meant to highlight the quality work done by females in the region.  For further details about the process or to inform us about possible nominees for the award, please write to us.
