Who can join?
Any adult over 18 who can handle a semi-hazardous environment without supervision is welcome. It’s important that you're mature enough to recognise the risks involved and physically capable of ensuring your own safety, as well as that of others around you.
The current membership fee is £5 per month payable on a monthly basis by standing order/BACS transfer.
The membership fee is reviewed annually and you will be notified of any changes a month before the change applies.
We do offer discounted fees for people in particularly difficult circumstances and this is at the discretion of the management committee.
We do not currently charge a session fee but, we reserve the right to do so in the future with appropriate notice given.
Yes and no. While the majority of our members are men (see stats), and our main focus is on creating a space primarily for men, we don’t close the door to others. Men, particularly those who are retired or out of work, are often an overlooked demographic, and we’ve found that they tend to open up more when women aren’t around.
That said, we chose the name Ascot Shed to keep things flexible. Women are welcome to join and roll up their sleeves alongside the men, but it’s worth noting that the environment can be a bit rugged—cuts and bruises can happen, so safety boots are a smart choice!
We’re not alone in this. Men's Sheds are a global movement, providing spaces for men to connect, learn, and share skills. To learn more about the concept of "Sheds," head over to the UK Men's Sheds Association website, where you'll find plenty of info. We're proud to be affiliated with them.
We are located in a spacious building in the centre of Ascot, just off the High Street behind Tesco Express.
The address is: Surrey House, Course Road, Ascot, SL5 7HQ
Parking: There is very limited parking on site which is on a first come first serve basis.
However, there is free parking on the high street for up to 1 hour and there is free all day parking
(on non-race days) in Car Park 6 by Maserati Ascot (see map), then it's a 5 minute walk.
We're open every weekday, Monday-Thursday 10:30 -17:30 and Friday 11:00 - 17:30
We are closed on all weekends, bank holidays and Royal Ascot week, (View Calendar for details)
We’re proud to be entirely community-funded, and we’ve been lucky enough to receive generous donations of tools and materials from local residents. Our garage clearance service has been especially appreciated by those recently bereaved, providing a helpful way to repurpose useful items.
In the summer of 2022, we salvaged workbenches and racking from the decommissioned Heatherwood Hospital, and we’ve struck up an ongoing arrangement with LOCK5, a temporary event structure provider for Ascot Racecourse. After Royal Ascot race week, they donate their used timber to us, which keeps us stocked with quality wood all year round—helping to boost everyone’s sustainability credentials in the process. A win-win!
If you have any tools, machines (working or not), industrial furniture, or building materials you’d like to donate, we’d love to give them a second life. Simply reach out using the button below.
When you contact us, please share a little bit about yourself and include your phone number so we can get back to you. Thank you!
We’d also like to give a special shoutout to the Ascot Fire Brigade Trust for their generous annual grants that cover our insurance costs. Built in 1902, the Old Fire Station on Ascot High Street was funded by the local community, and that spirit of "just-in-case" protection is still alive today.
We’re always grateful for any support local societies and businesses can offer, though we don’t currently need volunteer manpower—we take care of the hard graft ourselves! However, we are on the lookout for a permanent home. So, if you know of a spare building or piece of land, or someone who might be able to help, do let us know. We’re great tenants and even better neighbours!
We have all sorts of stuff listed and it's being updated all the time.
Your purchase raises funds to help keep our workshops running, 100% of all money spent is received by Ascot Shed charity via the "PayPal Giving Fund" as we are exempt from fees, thank you.
