Process of Obtaining BIS Registration for Electronic Process

BIS or the Bureau of Indian Standards is the National Standards Body of India established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016. It has the responsibility for the harmonious development of standardization, quality certification of goods and incidental matters connected thereto. BIS issues the BIS certification to enhance the confidence and trust of consumers in Indian goods. Therefore, manufacturers are required to obtain BIS certification through online process. Let’s understand the process of obtaining BIS registration.

BIS Registration Process

Following are the steps of BIS registration process:

1. Login using your credentials (discussed below)

2. Generate the Test Request for BIS registration

3. Get your product tested from the BIS recognized laboratory

4. Once the test report is being issued, verify the test report

5. Apply on the BIS portal using the verified Test report within 90 days of its issue

6. Submit all the relevant documents as may be required

Following are the steps for obtaining the login credentials for BIS:

1. Visit the portal.

2. You shall upload your business license establishing the name and address of your factory and indicating your manufacturing activity. Additional documents like Management Systems Certificate are acceptable for establishing your manufacturing activity.

3. You will receive an email. Use the link mentioned in the email for your email verification.

4. Your login request will be approved after online verification of your documents.

Follow the below-mentioned steps for generating test report for BIS registration:

1. Login using your existing credentials

2. Enter the sample details of your product

3. You will get a list of approved laboratories. Select any laboratory from the list

4. Wait for the confirmation from the laboratory selected

5. In case the selected laboratory is not available, then select any other approved laboratory

6. Print the test request with the QR code

7. For sending the samples for test request, paste or display the QR code on the sample packet to the laboratory for easy scanning and submit it along with a copy of the test request

8. Within 60 days of the generation of the test request, send the sample and the test request to the laboratory

9. Upon acceptance by the laboratory, an acknowledgment email shall be sent to the registered email ID

10. You will receive a notification from the laboratory upon completion of the test along with the test report number.

Further, if you want to obtain the BIS license, then you need to file an online application for the same. Following are the steps for applying for BIS license online:

1. Login using your existing credentials

2. You need to submit the test request reference number in the alphanumeric format to upload the test report

3. Submit the undertaking i.e., declaration of conformity

4. Pay the requisite fees. An acknowledgment slip will be generated

5. Fill in all the details as may be required. You will receive an acknowledgment upon successfully completing the form and providing all the necessary details

6. Send an affidavit by post to the BIS registration department

7. Submit all the necessary documents and file Form-I under smart registration.
