We are excited to announce that ASA Oregon Chapter and Oregon State University will be hosting ASA DataFest™ 2022 virtually (online) on April 22 through April 24. If you are interested in a hands on experience in statistics and data science, please join us for an exciting weekend event to create a meaningful project!
ASA DataFest is a nationwide data analysis competition in which teams of two to five students analyze a real, complex and surprise data set over the course of one weekend.
The mission of DataFest is to expose students to challenging questions with immediate real-world significance that can be addressed through data analysis. By working in teams, students with varying skill sets will combine their efforts and expand their collective data analysis horizons. Interaction among students, as well as with outside consultants will promote the sense that data analysis is a dynamic, engaging and vibrant part of our society, as well as a realistic, practical and fun career path.
When: April 22-24
Where: Online
You will spend the weekend with your team to analyze a real, complex, and surprise data provided by ASA.
Groups will submit short video presentations (6 minutes) of their findings to a panel of judges. There will be prizes in categories such as best visualization, best use of external data and best findings.
At the end of event, winners will be announced. The winner groups will be invited to give presentations at the ASA Oregon Chapter spring meeting.
All undergraduate and master's students attending school in Oregon are encouraged to join or form a team.
Ph.D. students are welcome and encouraged to volunteer as consultants, but may not compete.
Teams can be made up of 2-5 students. If you do not have a team, but would like to participate, we will place you on team with other individuals.
It is a free event. Access to the data and event are provided for students free of charge.
All you need is a laptop with tools in data analysis (there is no limitation on which software you use).
The data will remain a surprise until the opening event on Friday the 22th of April.
