Meet at the front door at 9:30 AM
Another FOX Hunt at 1:30 PM
The Arkansas River Valley Hamfest is sponsoring, with Faulkner County Amateur Radio Club members conducting the event, their Third Annual Foxhunt that takes place Saturday, March 2nd at 9:30 AM at Merritt Park, adjacent to the Dardanelle Community Center. A second Foxhunt is scheduled for 1:30PM.
Bring your Handheld radio, and join us in the hunt...there are prizes and bragging rights on the line!! Anyone can participate with just their HT radio and we'll even show you how!!
And maybe, just maybe, your chance to be the FOX and hide the xmtr on the next Direction Finding competition!!
For those that have not tried one of these fox hunts before, the idea is simple, and is quite fun. You can even bring the whole family along. It goes something like this:
By using a “warmer / colder” technique, where the signal is strongest when you are closer, and weaker when further away, or any technique of your choosing, the idea is to find the transmitter within half an hour. If anyone is still searching after that time, he’ll talk us all in using the Club’s repeater, so that all hunters will have the chance to meet up with him and laugh about our adventures!

The Arkansas River Valley Hamfest is honored to host the latest Pico balloon launch! Tom Medlin, W5KUB, will be on hand to launch W5KUB-116 during the hamfest.
Tom, the founder of the Amateur Radio Roundtable, has been flying balloons for about 6 years and has launched over 50 balloons. In the beginning, a good day was flying a balloon for 3-4 days. Now with new material & lessons learned his flights have flown around 50,000 feet and as long as 450 plus days, circling the earth 24 times! One of his balloons was shot down by the US Air Force a couple of years ago. Do you remember the great Chinese spy balloon saga?
Each balloon is completely solar powered and can be tracked using APRS software while the balloon is in daylight. Tom has a website for this launch, w5kub.com then click on balloon at the top of the page where you can track this balloon's progress after launch.
Don't miss the live launch of W5KUB-116 only at the Arkansas River Valley Hamfest.
