Product Design Experience

My experience in Product design at Schlumberger is tied around Surface Wellhead Components. Surface Wellhead components are pressure containing and controlling components that allows to conduct drilling and completion activities safely.

I have designed almost all Surface Wellhead components ranging from Casing head, Tubing head, Mandrel Hanger, Slip Hanger, Adapters, Running Tools, BPV, and Gate Valves and Christmas tree equipment.

These equipment are of high precision (0.1 mm tolerance) capable of operating in wide range of temperature ( -75 to 250 F) and pressure ( 2000 psi to 20000 psi ).

Most of the components I designed at Schlumberger is for CNC Machining, Forging and Welding processes. I have designed some parts for injection molding operations as well.

Design Experience at Schlumberger (Cameron)

A typical workflow for my project involves following steps,

  • Interpreting customer requirements to product requirements as per API 6A and NACE MR0175 standards.

  • Creating concept layouts using Auto CAD. Conducting Design reviews.

  • Performing and documenting Engineering calculations using Math CAD.

  • Generating 3D CAD models and Engineering Drawings using SolidWorks/Autodesk Inventor

  • Analyzing stress distribution using ANSYS and refining the design.

  • Releasing Engineering Drawings for production.

  • Creating and releasing Bill of Materials BOM and Engineering documents in SAP.

  • Writing Assembly procedure, Test procedure and Running procedure.

  • Performing Factory Acceptance Testing if requested by the customer.

At John Deere , my contribution is in the area of Test fixture Design for Agriculture and Turf equipment. I have designed fixtures for testing tracks , Engine Drain tube, and Prepared test layouts.

Fixtures I designed are usually a combination of commercially available products, CNC manufactured, or Sheet metal fabrication process

Design Experience at John Deere

A typical workflow of a test fixture design involves following steps,

  • Interface with internal customers to understand product testing requirements and test fixture

  • Develop multiple prototypes, proof of concepts, mock-ups and demos for test fixtures,

  • Presenting concepts to Engineering advisors, and choose the best concept for the given test fixture application.

  • Work with Engineering advisors, Testing and Manufacturing Engineers to develop designs and ensure manufacturability

  • Develop 3D models using CREO/Windchill and document engineering calculations.

  • Generate dimension and GD&T drawing markups and ensure drawing release on time for manufacturing

  • Conducting test with test engineers and obtain feedback to improve fixture design.

While my experience at Schlumberger involved Designing pressure containing equipments above the Surface of the Wellheads , my experience at Halliburton is on downhole tools .

I am involved in designing range of downhole equipment such as Electro - Mechanical downhole control valves, Production packers , and Mandrels for sensors and gauges.
