I did a series of 6 large murals, copied from Michaelangelo's Vatican murals, to decorate a Bar that was formerly on Crescent St. in Montreal, called The Vatican.
They were all oil on masonite, and glued and screwed to the ceilings and walls of this bar.
For example, the top one shown above, with David and God touching fingers, was painted on 2 pieces of 4' x 10' masonite. You can see the joint line and some screws...
