We want Justice (performance art against the Rape)
at University of Dhaka
The performance art piece *"We Want Justice"* was born out of rage, grief, and the collective cry for accountability in the face of gender-based violence. Inspired by the horrific rape case at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Hospital and the ripple effect it caused across borders, this piece took place during a protest at Dhaka University's TSC area.
Dressed as a white angel with wings, I ran through the protest march, raising my voice in an unrelenting demand for justice. The angel—a symbol of purity and protection—became a stark contrast to the brutal realities women face. By flapping my wings and moving frantically through the streets, I embodied the unrest, urgency, and resilience of those demanding change. The act disrupted the mundane rhythm of daily life, forcing spectators to confront the pervasive issue of violence against women.
This performance sought not only to amplify voices calling for justice but also to challenge societal complacency. It was an act of solidarity with survivors, a visual representation of collective rage, and a reminder that silence is not an option in the fight for equality and dignity.
Cry for the Slain
at Dhanmandi Satmasjid Road, Dhaka
The performance art piece "Cry for the Slain" emerged as a visceral response to the July massacre and the subsequent awakening of mass resistance in Bangladesh. It was both a commemoration of the martyrs and a collective outcry against the oppressive regime. Taking to the highway alongside fellow artists, we transformed the public space into a living, breathing canvas of grief and defiance.
On a sprawling cloth, we inscribed the names of martyrs in bold red, shouting "Present!" as a declaration of their enduring presence within our fight. My role as the white angel—a symbol of peace—was intentionally juxtaposed with the chaos and bloodshed. As my wings turned crimson, I moved among the crowd, embodying the contamination of peace by violence, while writing and crying out the martyrs’ names.
In a climactic moment, we sat together on the wet ground, rhythmically pounding the earth with our hands in an act of mourning—a gesture rooted in South Asian expressions of collective grief. Rain poured heavily, merging with the red paint on our bodies and canvas, creating a dramatic, almost surreal tableau. The rain carried the color onto the streets, symbolizing the unstoppable flow of memory and resistance.
This performance was not merely an act of remembrance but a rallying call, a visual and visceral reminder of the cost of freedom and the persistence of collective resilience.
The performance art piece "Pink Goddess and the Nature" was conceived during a festival at Sahasradhara, Uttarakhand, as a response to the environmental degradation of this natural site by Hexxyduxxybox titled "Beyond the Cloud and Rain". The juxtaposition of human joy and negligence—the creation of a swimming pool in a natural spring, littered with plastic and waste—prompted an urgent call for action through art.
In this performance, I immersed myself in the polluted environment, collecting the discarded plastics and waste strewn around the spring and pool. My act of cleansing became a symbolic attempt to restore balance and harmony between human presence and nature. The process was not merely physical but also spiritual, as I used my queer identity as a bridge to emphasize the interconnectedness of diverse identities and the natural world.
This act was a reclamation—not just of the natural space, but of the respect and reverence it deserves. By integrating my personal identity into this performance, I aimed to foster a deeper understanding of how nature and marginalized voices can coexist and heal together. The act of cleaning the pool became a ritual, a gesture of care, and a reminder of the responsibility we hold toward preserving the sanctity of our environment.
পারফরম্যান্স আর্ট *"Pink Goddess and the Nature"* উত্তরাখণ্ডের সহস্রধারা ঝর্ণায় অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।
Food Is A Fantasy
"Food is a Fantasy" is an experimental documentation and performance art project that reflects on the current market conditions and the rising prices of essential goods. It seeks to present the struggles of ordinary people trying to fulfill their basic needs.
In today's context, essential commodities have transformed from necessities into unattainable luxuries. The relentless inflation has forced people to battle simply to meet their fundamental needs. Food, a basic right of every individual, now appears to many as an elusive fantasy.
Through this project, I aim to capture the vibrant yet chaotic reality of the market, blending traditional and colorful elements with the stark contrasts of desperation and survival. My performance interrogates how this economic reality has pushed even the most basic needs, like food, beyond the reach of many. This work serves as a protest and a call to action, inviting audiences to feel and reflect on the crisis of affordability and access in the language of art.
We are born as a human being in this beautiful and surreal universe. Spend time and experience the cosmic journey with our own thoughts. Every life has to travel through this cosmic time and lead the life as their own. When we get different emotions, we feel them in different ways. Every creature has their own emotions and are eternal entities connected with the cosmic energy. This connection between life and soul is the reflection of our thoughts in the infinity...
As an artist, I am deeply inspired by the boundless expanse of the universe and its intricate connection to human existence. My work explores the relationship between life, soul, and the cosmic energy that binds us all. I see every individual, every creature, as an eternal entity, resonating with the vibrations of the cosmos. Through my art, I strive to translate the abstract and surreal beauty of this journey—how emotions ebb and flow, shaping our experiences and our connections to the infinite.
I seek to capture the reflection of thoughts and emotions as they traverse this cosmic time. Using diverse mediums like acrylics, natural pigments, ink, and collage, I create layered narratives that reflect the complex interplay of life and energy. My works serve as a portal for introspection, inviting viewers to pause, immerse themselves in their own emotions, and rediscover their connection to the infinite.
Through this process, I aim to celebrate the unity of life and the universality of emotions, fostering a sense of harmony and shared existence within the vastness of the cosmos.
"A Gardener’s Tale" is an interactive performance art piece that creates a shared space for dialogue, reflection, and exploration of gender identity, equity, and diversity. Through a participatory questioning and answering session, this performance seeks to foster a collective understanding of the socio-cultural norms that shape our identities and influence our perceptions of inclusion and fairness.
The audience becomes an integral part of the artwork by writing their thoughts and answers on sticky notes and placing them on a bench before a painting. This act transforms the bench into a communal repository of ideas, emotions, and perspectives, symbolizing a garden where diverse voices bloom together. The performance evolves as each participant adds their voice, creating a dynamic and ever-changing narrative that reflects the complexity and richness of human experiences.
As the artist, I assume the role of the gardener, cultivating a safe and inclusive environment for meaningful exchanges. This work aims to break down barriers between artist and audience, encouraging an open and empathetic conversation about identity and belonging. Ultimately, A Gardener’s Tale invites us to rethink societal constructs and embrace diversity as the essence of our shared humanity.
A performance about gender identity.
"Gender Identity" is a performance art piece that explores the societal imposition of gender-based identity and its profound consequences. From birth, society imposes a rigid framework of identity on individuals, suppressing their authentic self and individuality.
A newborn child is unaware of their gender identity. Yet, society continually reminds them that their body and gender are the primary determinants of their identity. This enforced notion deeply impacts the individual. When they fail to align their inner feelings with the societal construct of their body and gender, they are burdened with trauma, sorrow, and alienation.
Through this performance art, I aim to expose the lived experiences of individuals caught in this conflict and the emotional toll of societal expectations. It is not merely a protest but an invitation—a call for society to challenge these rigid constructs and prioritize personal expression and freedom of identity.
