Rasel Rana (Sajan) is an artist and storyteller from Bangladesh, known for using multidisciplinary tools to challenge societal norms, drawing on feminist, ecological and queer political theory. They are widely recognized in Bangladesh for their activism in the 2024 July Uprising in Bangladesh.
They primarily work to engage audiences with simple, sensual imagery, which encourages reflection on social norms and the dreaming of new radical futures. This work spans across a variety of mediums, including drawing, painting, installation, print, sculpture, performance, digital arts and illustration.
In Bangladesh, their art has been exhibited in the Asian Art Biennale (2022), Dhaka Art Summit (2023), and the prestigious National Art Exhibition at Shilpokala Academy (2019-2023). They have also worked internationally with exhibitions at the Midland Arts Center in Birmingham, UK, Kaloo.101 in Kathmandu, Nepal and Kalyani University in India.
Rana has participated in and led several art projects and advocacy programs with both national and international organizations. Currently they are researching queer and disabled folklore in an international partnership with British artist F. Zeeshan Choudhury, funded by UK arts charity Unlimited. Their project, "Forming New Folklores", is currently exhibiting in several sites across London and Dhaka.
