Meet Andrea Baker, SHRM-SCP,
Owner & Managing Director

Artisan HR Consulting was founded by Andrea Baker. With expertise in California compliance, Andrea has provided strategic HR support to a diverse range of businesses and nonprofit organizations, both domestically and internationally, for over two decades. Her experience spans industries including film post-production, venture-backed AdTech, newspaper publishing, higher education, biotech, and philanthropy. Andrea is passionate about cultivating people-centered cultures that drive business success. She has a proven track record of aligning HR practices with company goals, fostering collaboration, innovation, and creating positive work environments.

Andrea holds degrees in Organizational Communication and Psychology from Michigan State University and was certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) by HRCI, and a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) from the Society for HR Management. A trained Management Coach, she is an active member of the Society for HR Management and the Association of Workplace Investigators, staying ahead of HR trends to drive meaningful change.

Our Services

Artisan HR offers a variety of HR Operations, Employee Relations and Advisory Services, including:

Conduct comprehensive HR and Payroll audits and deliver actionable findings reports to mature existing operations.

Design and implement end-to-end compliance department operations.

Review and revise Employee Handbooks, company policies and procedures, and employment programs to ensure compliance with updated federal and state requirements. We coordinate with counsel for legal review.

Provide executive-level counsel on complex employee relations, including sensitive internal investigations, performance management, and terminations.

Onboarding: New hire and onboarding process and paperwork, legal notices and acknowledgements
Payroll: Wage and hour practices, payroll audit, timekeeping, payment of wages, overtime, premium pay, meal periods and waivers
Leave of Absence Compliance: Policy vs. company practices
Risk Assessment: Review Employee Relations practices
Training & Development: Employee and Supervisor training an development, performance and appraisal processes
Personnel Files: Legal, privacy and functional compliance review, including I-9 sample audit, new hire paperwork, and medical information
Surveys: Objective third-party assessment of employee engagement, policy compliance vs. actual practices, satisfaction with benefits, etc., with analysis and recommendations
Wage & Compensation: Analysis and alignment with position descriptions, including FLSA classification/ADA compliance
Safety Record Review: Including recommendations on WC claims
Talent Management: Assess recruitment, positions vs. allocation, production, productivity
OSHA Requirements: Safety training, committee process and communications
