Kid's Scripts

Kids Scripts

The main purpose of this website is to children how they can act out and roleplay, providing various scripts varying from fairytales, science, history, and geography.

Strengths

  • Wide variety of scripts – The site offers hundreds of plays, covering themes like fairy tales, history, science, moral stories, and seasonal celebrations. This variety gives teachers flexibility to match scripts to both curriculum goals and student interests.

  • Age-appropriate and structured – Scripts are carefully designed for specific age groups (4–6, 8–11, 10–14, etc.) with suitable language, clear roles, and engaging characters. This ensures students can confidently perform at their developmental level without feeling overwhelmed.

  • Practical for teachers – Each script purchase includes both PDF and editable Word versions, performance rights for up to three shows within four years, and permission to photocopy for cast use. Many scripts also include guidance on props, costumes, and music, which reduces preparation time for teachers.

  • Curriculum alignment – The plays are organised into catalogues by Key Stage (KS1–KS5), subjects, and themes. This helps teachers find scripts that fit not only age level but also specific classroom topics, making them useful as cross-curricular resources.

Weaknesses

  • Website design feels dated – The navigation relies heavily on long catalogues, links, and Google Docs instead of a modern, streamlined interface. This can make browsing slower and less intuitive, especially for teachers short on planning time.

  • Limited free content – Only a small number of excerpts and free scripts are available, while full plays require payment. This may be a barrier for schools and educators working with limited budgets.

  • Regional bias – While the site includes scripts for UK, US, Australian, and international contexts, many plays reflect specific cultural or curriculum references. Teachers outside these regions may need to adapt the content to make it more relevant for their students.

  • Clunky search/filtering – The search function is basic, and there are limited preview options. Teachers can’t always quickly sort by length, cast size, or theme without going through multiple pages, which makes script selection more time-consuming than it should be.

Classroom Activity Idea

A great classroom activity using this resource would be to have children aged 4 to 8 choose a fairytale script they enjoy. With the guidance of the educator, they can practice memorising lines or simple expressions, creating a fun and engaging experience. Rather than focusing on full role-play or performance, this activity emphasizes building confidence and teamwork, allowing students to work together, support one another, and develop communication skills in a playful and supportive environment.
