Chapter 3: Ethics in AI: Addressing Manipulation

3.1 - AI's Dark Side: Scams & Tactics: In this module, you will learn about the ways AI can be used nefariously, such as in scams or misinformation campaigns. This knowledge is vital for understanding the broader ethical and societal implications of AI. 

Essential Question: What are some ways in which AI can be used for nefarious purposes? How does understanding these tactics contribute to our broader understanding of AI's societal implications?

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

• Understand how AI can be used for nefarious purposes.

• Identify examples of AI-enabled scams or misinformation campaigns.

• Reflect on the ethical and societal implications of AI misuse.

3.2 - Lab 3: AI Scam Simulation: This lab exposes you to the darker side of AI. They will simulate an AI-assisted scam, which will illustrate how AI can be manipulated for malicious intent. This knowledge is critical for understanding the ethical implications of AI and how to counter such misuse.

3.3 - Countering AI-enabled Scams: We'll look at ways individuals and societies can counter the misuse of AI, promoting a proactive, informed approach to these technologies.

3.4 - Assignment 2:  Reflecting on AI Misuse: This assignment will ask you to dive deeper into the ethical implications of AI misuse. Following the AI Scam Simulation lab, you'll be required to write a comprehensive report about your experience, the tactics you used, and the countermeasures that could be employed to prevent such misuse. This assignment will serve as an exploration of your understanding of the potential negative consequences of AI and the necessary precautionary measures. Your ability to analyse these aspects critically is what will be assessed.
