My Art

As an artist I believe art is all around us, in everything we do and effects each one of us on a different level. For me art has always been a way to center myself and explore new ideas. This is why I choose to pursue a career in art. It was a part of me and I loved it. I remember putting together my portfolio and nervously interviewing at colleges as an undergraduate. After attending classes, I gained not only knowledge but a confidence in my work. I started to purse classes in graphic design because I enjoyed the challenge of creating something beautiful, meaningful, yet easy for an audience to relate with. When designing for purpose, such as graphic design, it's more than just basic principles of art or marketing strategy. It's about connecting with others on a psychological level, taking time to think about the person on the other side of this piece and how you can relate to them. It was communicating with a larger crowd and so I pursed that in school and in life.

I’ve adapted a very clean style in my design work, yet love the chaos and mess of mixed mediums in my studio pieces. Art has a way of seeming mystifying and I believe it shouldn’t be. Expression with technical help creates beautiful works that are both visually moving but also emotionally relevant. Communicating through visuals provides a way for myself, and others, to explore the world and issues in them. Art is inspiring, creative, expressive, and ever changing. As an artist and educator I strive for students to understand and appreciate all the avenues which can be explored through art. Different is good, it can lead to exploring new techniques, thought processes, and understanding new ideas. In my art room students will explore the many possibilities open to them through the use of multimedia and technology. Projects will include technology such as Photoshop, digital portfolios, blogs, or Facebook page creation about artists, design principles, and mediums.

My portfolio of artwork I've complete thus far while pursuing my Master's Degree can be found in this section.
