Greetings! My name is Yesenia Alcala. This is the my third year in the Adult Education, Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship doctoral program at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, TX. My BBA is concentration in International Business, minor in Religious Studies & MBA in General Business Administration both degrees earned at UIW. I am employed full-time at Valero Energy Corporation as an analyst for the Loss Control Department. My job entails making sure that the proper cost & analysis are being done on all crude product bought or sold by a variety of transportation modes that includes; ship, barge, rail, and pipeline. I have been working at Valero for the past 13 years and I enjoy my work and the people I work with.
I have been happily married to Sergio for 27 years and we have two wonderful young adult son's David and Cristian. We also have five fur pups that we consider part of our immediate family; Marley (Chihuahua), Quinn (Pitbull), Poppy (long haired Dachshund), Maya (short haired Dachshund), and Winston (German Pointer). Aside from my schedule with work and classes I stay active volunteering for community projects with non-profits, hiking, and I look forward to the weekends to enjoy a warm cup of coffee watching the morning news surrounded by my pups. Between my work and passion for being a life learner I enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures and seeing sacred places of worship from different religious denominations or spiritual beliefs. My previous in-service learning trip to Peru in 2019 inspired me to learn more about our shared connections with women from other cultures. When I was introduced to the Shipibo Women's group I felt an instant connection.
My goal and mission is to raise awareness for this beautiful culture of Shipibo women. I plan, in the near future, to continue to collaborate with the Shipibo Women's Group, facilitate, and design workshops that will benefit the Shipibo women in their endeavors to empower each other, achieve economic stability, and preserve their culture. I thank Women's Global Connection, Sr. Martha Ann, Sr. Katty Huanaco, and all those involved for making it possible for UIW student's to have these connections with women groups in Peru and develop lasting friendships. Thank you for your interest and visiting this website.
Blessings,
