The Art of Collecting Final Thoughts

Assignment:

 Answer the following questions.

1.      What motivated the various collectors to buy art?

2.      Are there any similarities in their stories?

3.      Who do you admire the most and why?

4.      Why would it be difficult for them to build a similar collection today?   Could their stories occur today? Why yes? Why no?

5.      What surprised you in each of the stories we studied?

6.      How do you explain the fact that many of these collectors were women?

7.      Aside from money what is necessary to be a serious collector? Does it require a particular type of personality? Do you need a mentor or a certain educational background? Or does chance play a significant role?

Final Assignment:

Form 4 groups of 5 persons. Pick your two favorite paintings from each of the collections and be ready to explain your choices. Rank them 1 and 2 for each collection.

You need to send me the list of the paintings you chose by Monday at 5 pm so that I can put the slide show together.
