Elementary

All Elementary classes, K-5th grade, have ART once a week in the ART room.

Starting in September, students are introduced to age-appropriate routines and responsibilities. Students engage in teamwork during the distribution of project materials and again during clean-up. Student independence and confidence are encouraged.

Following the New York State curriculum, students engage in the viewing, making and discussing of Artwork while incorporating the ART Elements and the vocabulary associated with these concepts. Throughout the year, students use an assortment of Art mediums (materials) and learn a variety of Art techniques. The ART content, scaffolds from Kindergarten all the way through Middle School.

During ART class, students listen to stories, songs and watch videos, that are relative to the thematic assignments. Many of the Art projects are interdisciplinary in nature, connecting with Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math concepts. Art History, artists, culture and literature are used as a foundation for ART projects.

Artwork is displayed in the building on a regular basis. Each student will bring home a portfolio in June. The portfolio will contain all projects completed in ART for the 2021-2022 school year.
