Steven Frank is an intellectual property attorney with a keen interest in engineering and computer science. He recently earned a graduate certificate in artificial intelligence from Columbia University and a program certificate in computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Steve is also a published author of fiction and non-fiction.
Steve shares with his wife Andrea Frank, an art historian, a love of art. As Steve learned about neural networks, he wondered if this fascinating tool could help resolve thorny questions about authorship in art. Working with Andrea, he devised a computational technique for analyzing images of paintings and teasing out the "signature" aspects of a particular artist's work. The system then assigns to paintings -- and parts of paintings -- a probability score representing the likelihood of authorship by the artist in question.
When not geeking away at their computers, Steve and Andrea enjoy recreational bicycling and large ice cream cones (although not necessarily in that order).
