WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
Some of the symptoms of SAD include the following:
- Intense fear of being nervous in front of other people, feeling self-conscious and awkward
- Worried other people will judge them
- Avoiding places and situations where social interactions take place, like a party, or going to school or work, dating
- Worry about being at a loss for words
- Intense anxiety in anticipation of a performance, like making a speech, or having to be in a social interaction situation
- Blushing, sweating, rapid heart rate
- Mind going blank
- Stomach upset or nausea
- Poor eye contact and posture
- Fear of having to talk to strangers, like a sales clerk
- Difficulty eating in front of others or using a public restroom
- Analyzing performance after social contact and worrying that embarrassed or humiliated self
- Dizziness, muscle tension, trembling, shaky hands
