Sarah's (aka Mrs. Arneson) Story

I have debated for a long time how detailed to make my story online. Many aspects of my music journey are very personal and I enjoy sharing these details in person rather than in such an impersonal setting such as a website. If you want to know more, feel free to ask!

My musical journey begins at a young age. I am told that I always loved making sounds on the piano. I am also told the only way I was content during church is if we sat by the musicians. My attraction towards all styles of music and the desire to play the piano (and other instruments) never wavered. I finally began piano lessons in 4th grade. (My parents could not afford lessons before this time which is why I now offer my lesson exchange program to ensure students such as myself do not need to wait until their parents can afford it to begin lessons.) In 5th grade I began learning flute; In 8th grade I began learning piccolo and violin. In High School I tried to participate in every music related activity I could including band; choir; musicals; and private lessons on piano, flute, and violin. If a music activity was presented to me, I gladly did it. When the time came to make a decision about college programs, I debated between music and engineering programs that I had been accepted into. (While not everyone is meant to be college bound, I knew it was the right path for me.) I was so connected to my music activities that I couldn't give it up which in turn led me to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I loved my learning experiences at UNL from playing piccolo in the Cornhusker Marching Band to my regular lessons to everything in between. I have used both my college degrees every year since I graduated through teaching in K-12 School Settings and in private lesson settings with students of all ages. Teaching Music is definitely what I want to do, have loved teaching the past 15+ years, and look forward to many more years to come.

During our first (free) meeting, I typically describe possible student goals (could be almost anything - I'm here to help accomplish your goals), philosophies, books, and other resources available for lessons. I'm always adding and working to adapt lessons for each individual student to be successful and continue communicating throughout the entire learning process.

I hope to have the opportunity to meet everyone who has taken the time to read my story and start or help continue you on your musical journey.
