Colin Tapp has been the band director at Alston Ridge Middle School since 2024. Before coming to North Carolina, he was a band director in Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and overseas in Qatar. Mr. Tapp earned a Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education degree from Oklahoma State University, and a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Arkansas.
Mr. Tapp was voted the 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year at Brogden MS, and in the spring of 2023 was selected as the winner of the North Carolina Symphony's Musicians Award. Ensembles under the direction of Mr. Tapp have consistently received Superior and Excellent ratings at concert band festivals sponsored by the North Carolina Bandmasters Association.
Mr. Tapp is an active member of the North Carolina Bandmasters Association and the North Carolina Music Educators Association. He is a member of the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.
Mr. Tapp lives in Creedmoor, NC with his wife Rachel and daughter Lily. When not teaching, he enjoys gardening, kayaking, and hiking.
