Trough the Snowglobes was a map that got into life by the idea to convey what the festive times could look and feel for different demographics.
The map starts inside of a giant snow ball that acts as a lobby and a gathering point. A thing that's interesting in this lobby area, is that we have snow inside of an enclosed area, but that's not how minecraft (or the real world) works, so I had to come up with the way of making it happen and that was a particle effect that applies to the center of the snow globe and in a very expansive area.
After pressing the "Start the experience" button you get brought into a family's living room decorated with festive items like red decorative table cloths, oversized socks over the fireplace, a christmas tree surrounded by presents, a festive log with a face (Catalan tradition for the holidays) and a lot, and i really do mean a lot, of festive sweaters. Ah and of course, three different snow globes with a not so subtle text above them.
The first of the snow globes gets you to a candyland place, where all the gingerbread men* live in their gingerbread homes surrounded by lollipop and candy cane trees besides some ice cream and chocolate bar* mountains and a honey river that falls from the honeycomb mountains. This is meant to convey how many children really look for the festive times to be able to eat as much candy as possible, maybe even more than they should, bringing them to a very sweet fever dream... Yeah, that was the idea. [* gingerbread men not included] [* The chocolate bars have an ominous logo]
The second one is a recreation of an overcast city where the rain has stopped but the snow remains, the perfect pocket of piece where the children take over the streets and use them as the canvas that it should've always been. It's what could be the most realistic approach for many people from temperate areas in the world and tells a similar story without relying on the festivities themselves.
This map has a couple of cool stories behind; the trolley was the first "complex" 3D model that i made in blockbench and the shading of it was corrected by kyrkis in a Smithed event. And also houses some of the buildings from an old city project I had and will probably continue some time in the future.
And to finish off, the third one is a postcard inspired view of a wood cabin in the woods, only that the postcard doesn't exist and the cabin is an eye candy trap. That's a fancy way of saying that the interior of the cabin is a tiny bit bigger than what the exterior shows, that creates a more realistic illusion without the thickness of the walls that we have to work with in-game. Out of the tree, this area has the better ambiance mostly due to Megacow's terrain and Cobra063's trees. (that have been also used in the lobby globe)
