Title of the Project: Instrumentation for Real-time Measurement of Various Parameters on the Elevated Track over Viaduct at Rohtak
Project Supervisor (s): Dr. S. Raychaudhuri, Co-PI: Drs. O. Dikshit, P. Raychowdhury
Brief description:
The project entails constructing an elevated Rohtak-Gohana Line in place of the Rohtak Bypass Line to relieve congestion in Rohtak city. The railway span over the bridge is designed to support axle load upto 25 ton. The purpose is to assess the performance of the elevated main bridge supporting the open-track section and the transition region involving the end - substructures under the moving train load. The work involves a detailed field instrumentation and monitoring along with the numerical modelling.
Funded by: Northern Railway of India (Project Grant No. NR-553 TKJC0ENGG (W)/1/2021)
Contribution:
A detailed numerical study has been conducted especially focusing on the behaviour of end transition region that involves both the railway track and the end–substructures using an open source software OpenSees.
A pushover based response study has been carried out for the abutment considering the effect of lateral load.
The effect of underlying geomaterial on the overall performance of bridge end – substructures has been extensively studied.
The role of rail – pad and the consequences of repetitive loading have been thoroughly investigated.
