Mathematics helped saved Dr. Winger's life. An orphan by the age of 11 in inner city Washington D.C., he often recoiled from life by doing mathematics. He developed a strong math identity that carried him through high school, Howard University and through graduate school at Carnegie Mellon University. He believe mathematics is one of the greatest disciplines in the history of the human experience. Have a look at his work and life in mathematics.
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC)
A relatively new school, founded in 2007, Georgia Gwinnett College was the first new Public 4-Year Institution of the 21st century. Committed to serving students by meeting them where they are, the school is primarily a teaching institution. Dr. Winger has been a faculty member since 2010, having taught numerous courses, mentored many students and served on numerous committees. Learn more about GGC here.
National Association of Mathematicians (NAM)
An organization founded nearly six decades ago, NAM serves to provide spaces where all people, particularly African Americans, can thrive and progress in mathematics. Holding community events for Undergraduate Mathematics Research and Faculty and Teaching excellence, it impacts many expects of the mathematical community. As executive director, Dr. Winger is honored to work to ensure everyday operations for the organization run as smoothly as possible. Learn more about NAM here.
