April 2024: Arijit is thrilled to announce the funding approval for the portable trapped ion project at IIT Tirupati. We are delighted to receive support from the IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (iNiF) for this project. 

April 2024: Mr. Ezhilarasan M. has joined as a JRF under the ISRO RESPOND project on precision spectroscopy of MEMS vapor cells in the PML group. Welcome Ezhil to IIT Tirupati!!

April 2024: Mr. Rishabh Pal has been selected to present a poster and a paper at the EFTF conference at Neuchatel, Switzerland in June 2024. He has also been awarded a travel support under the conference. Congratulations Rishabh!!

March 2024: Dr. Ashok Chilukoti has joined as a Chanakya Postdoctoral Fellow  supported by the IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (iNiF)  to work on the portable  trapped ion clock in the PML group. Welcome Ashok to the PML group at IIT Tirupati!!

February 2024: Arijit attended the National Quantum Meeting brainstorming session organized by the DST at New Delhi.

January 2024: PML is thrilled to announce that two students Mr. Himanshu Miriyala (M.Sc. 2-year 2024, VIT Vellore) and Miss. Poorvisha C. have been selected for the Chanakya UG and post-PG scholarships funded by the I-Hub Quantum Technology Foundation, IISER Pune to work on exciting quantum technology projects. We welcome both to PML, IIT Tirupati.

January 2024: Arijit is awarded a ISRO RESPOND project titled "RES-URSC-2022-005: Development of precision laser spectroscopy system for testing and characterization of MEMS based vapour cells for quantum technology applications in computing, communication, sensing and metrology" using Rb atoms. Many thanks to ISRO and colleagues at LEOS for supporting us on this project!!

January 2024: Mr. Shivam Sinha joins our group as the newest PhD student. Shivam is currently doing his M.Sc. coursework at IIT Tirupati. He decided to upgrade to the PhD program and joined our group in the second week of January 2024. He will work on developing a bichromatic two-photon all-optical portable atomic clock using Rb atoms. Hearty welcome to Shivam to the PML and our research group!!

January 2024: Mr. Himanshu Miriyala joins our group as the newest MSc student. Himanshu is currently doing his M.Sc. coursework at VIT Vellore. He decided to complete his final semester M.Sc. thesis project in our group. He will work on the development of a transfer cavity based laser stabilization system. Hearty welcome to Himanshu to the PML and our research group!!

January 2024: Dr. Thejesh N. Bandi, Dept. of Physics & Astronomy, University of Alabama visited our group and IIT Tirupati in the first week of January 2024. We had great discussions with him. We will work with his research group on developing a bichromatic two-photon all-optical portable atomic clock using Rb atoms. A new year has brought in a valuable new collaboration opportunity with Dr. Bandi's research group at the University of Alabama, USA.


2023

December 2023: Mr. Rishabh Pal, PhD student in our group has been selected for the prestigious PTB Guest Researcher program for a period of 3 months from May-July 2024. He will work under the supervision of Professor Tanja Mehlsteubler, Liebniz University, Germany on all-optical atomic clocks.

December 2023: Arijit gave a talk on portable atomic clocks at the XLVI OSI Symposium OPTIQ-2023 International Conference on Optics, Photonics and Quantum Information organized by the International School on Photonics, Cochin University of Science and Technology from December 11 -13, 2023.

December 2023: Mr. Gyanendra Pratap Roy has joined our group as an intern on a fellowship from the TIH at IITT. Welcome Gyanendra!!

November 2023: Arijit gave a talk on portable atomic clocks at the Emerging Topics in Quantum Technology  workshop organized by the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad from 02-04 November, 2023.

October 2023: Graduate student Vikrant Yadav is awarded the PMRF award under the lateral entry mode for Cycle 11. Many hearty congratulations to him!! Vikrant scripts history as the first PhD student from the Department of Physics, IIT Tirupati to qualify for this award.

October 2023: Graduate student Rishabh Pal is awarded CSIR UGC JRF award. Many hearty congratulations to him!!

September 2023: Honourable Niti Aayog member and Padma Bhushan Awardee Dr. Shri V. K. Saraswat-ji visited our lab on the occasion of a Symposium on “National Science and Technology Missions” in the country organised at IIT TIRUPATI.

September 2023: Graduate student Vikrant returns to the lab after completion of his MITACS Graduate Research Award Internship program at Professor Amar Vutha's lab, Department of Physics, University of Toronto, Canada. Welcome back Vikrant!!

Augut 2023: Graduate student Rishabh qualifies for CSIR JRF with AIR 120. Hats off and congratulations to him!!

Augut 2023: Arijit gave invited talk at the RRI Platinum Jubilee Celebrations organised by the LAMP (Light and Matter Physics) group from 14-18 August 2023.

July 2023: Graduate students Abhijit, Sumit and Rishabh travel to the ICTS School on Introduction to Precision Measurements and Quantum Metrology from 10-21 July 2023. All three students present posters on their respective projects. Arijit gave a talk on portable trapped ion clock project under development at IIT Tirupati in the follow up workshop from 19-21 July 2023.

July 2023: Graduate student Sneha is selected for the prestigious Predoctoral Training School on Ultracold molecules: Quantum physics and applications from 9 - 20 October 2023 to be organnized by Les Houches School of Physics at Les Houches (France). Many congratulations to her!!

April 2023:  We are very happy to announce the publication of the article "Indigenisation of the Quantum Clock: An Indispensable Tool for Modern Technologies" in Atoms as part of the Special Issue Recent Advances in Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy and authored by Subhadeep De (IUCAA Pune) and Arijit Sharma (IIT Tirupati). March 2023:  Dr. Ashok Chilukoti joins the lab as a Chanakya Postdoctoral Fellow to work on the cavity-qed project. Welcome Dr. Ashok to the PML!! Also lab reopened again after a hiatus of 3 months.

February 2023:  Graduate students Mr. Abhijit Kundu and Mr. Sumit Achar attended the NCAMP 2023 and also the pre-conference school organized jointly by the Indian Institute for Science Education and Research (IISER), Thiruvananthapuram, Space Physics Laboratory (SPL), Thiruvananthapuram and Space Program Office, Bengaluru. Abhijit presented a poster titled "Trapped Ion Cavity QED System as a Quantum Node for the Development of Scalable Quantum Network" and Sumit presented a poster titled "TOWARDS THE GENERATION OF ENTANGLED PHOTON PAIR ON A COLD ATOMIC PLATFORM USING SFWM".

January 2023:  We are very happy to be awarded the funds to support the research internship  of Mr. Vikrant Yadav and Mr. Sonu Jana in the group of Prof. Amar Vutha at the Department of Physics, University of Toronto through the MITACS Globalink Research Awards. Both Vikrant and Sonu will spend their summer at Toronto working on development of the world's first cryogenic trapped Sr (Strontium) ion clock. Thanks SICI and MITACS Canada.


2022

December 2022: Our lab is closed again due to civil constructions in the building!! Waiting eagerly for civil works to be completed.

November 2022: Our lab is ready!! Yayy!! Finally after a long wait of 4 years, we have our own lab!! Exciting times ahead!!

November 2022: Three students from our research group qualify for JRF in the last CSIR NET examination conducted in September 2022. Mr. Sumit Achar and Mr. Sonu Jana both qualified for JRF with AIR 26, and Mr. Abhijit Kundu qualified for JRF with AIR 47. Congratulations to all of them!!

November 2022: Arijit gave an invited technical seminar titled "Towards a Cold Atom-Cold Ion Quantum Network" at the XLV Symposium of Optical Society of India - COPAQ 2022 organized at IIT Roorkee during November 10-13, 2022. He also co-chaired a session in the above conference.

November 2022: Sumit Achar presented a poster titled "Progress Towards a Cold Atomic Vapor Based Entangled Photon Pair Source for use in Scalable Quantum Networks" at the XLV Symposium of Optical Society of India - COPAQ 2022 organized at IIT Roorkee during November 10-13, 2022.

November 2022: Abhijit Kundu presented a poster titled "Towards a Single Photon Source Based on a Cavity QED Platform for the Development of Scalable Quantum Networks" at the XLV Symposium of Optical Society of India - COPAQ 2022 organized at IIT Roorkee during November 10-13, 2022.

September 2022: Sonu Jana's paper titled "Progress Towards the Development of a Portable All-optical Atomic Clock Based on a Two-photon Transition in Warm Atomic Vapor" has been accepted at the 2022 URSI Regional Conference on Radio Science (URSCI RCRS 2022) to be hosted at IIT Indore from 01-04 December, 2022.

September 2022: Arijit invited to be a member for the Technical Program Committee as well as a Co-Chair of the XLV Symposium of Optical Society of India - COPAQ 2022 organized at IIT Roorkee during November 10-13, 2022 and short courses on November 9, 2022. August 2022: IIT Tirupati signs MoU with TCS for academic and research collaboration. The initiative will lead to enhanced cooperation between IIT Tirupati and TCS  on quantum computing and quantum technology domain. The initiative was led by Dr. Arijit Sharma on behalf of IIT Tirupati. August 2022: 4 students join the group for their PhD program. They are Vikrant Yadav, Sneha S., Rishabh Pal and Sonu Jana. We welcome all new members of the PML, IIT Tirupati. While Vikrant joins as JRF received from CSIR, Sonu joins IIT Tirupati as a Chanakya doctoral fellow sponsored by iNiF (IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation).

May 2022: Arijit gave an invited seminar on portable optical atomic clocks based on two-photon transitions at the PHYSICS WITH TRAPPED ATOMS, MOLECULES AND IONS (HYBRID) - TAMIONS 2022 Discussion Meeting at ICTS Bengaluru from 9-13 May 2022. Abhijit and Sumit gave a joint poster titled "PROGRESS TOWARDS A COLD ATOM-ION QUANTUM NETWORK" on the projects they are working on in our group.

April 2022: Arijit gave an invited seminar on portable optical atomic clocks based on two-photon transitions at the Indo-Israel Bilateral Workshop on Quantum Technologies (I2QT) – 2022 organized jointly by DIA-CoE, DRDO and IIT Delhi from 5-6 April 2022.

March 2022: We are delighted to be awarded CRG (Core Research Grant) funding from SERB as a co-PI (with Dr. S. Sunil Kumar from IISER Tirupati as PI and Dr. Padmabati Mondal as co-PI from IISER Tirupati) for a project related to the development of fluorophores of predictable fluorescence that shall pave the way for a comprehensive investigation of the fluorescence characteristics of fluorescein (a very widely used fluorophore for biomedical applications). Thank you SERB for supporting our project that paves the way for investigation of biomolecules for target applications in biomedical imaging!!

March 2022: Rastrapriya Kumar Kapri joins our team as a Chanakya Postdoctoral Fellow supported by the I-Hub Quantum Foundation grant, from IISER Pune. He has done his PhD work at the pretigious National Physical Lab (NPL), New Delhi. We welcome him in our group. 


2021

December 2021:  We are very happy to be awarded the funds to host a Chanakya Postdoctoral Fellow by the I-Hub Quantum Technology Foundation, IISER Pune on the development of a single photon generation experiment for quantum networking applications.

July 2021: We welcome two new graduate students to our group - Abhijit Kundu and Sumit Achar.

April 2021: IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (iNiF) has been set up as a Section-8 company to host the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) in Positioning and Precision Technologies (PPT). iNiF is based at IIT Tirupati. December 2020: Arijit gave a talk titled "Towards the development of cold atom-ion quantum networks" at the AAMOS20: Advances in Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Sciences 2020, an International Web-based Conference, organized by IIT and IISER Tirupati with support from CAMOST and DSU, Bengaluru in honor of Professor Steven Trent Manson to celebrate his rich contributions in the field of Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Sciences for over half a century on the occasion of his 80th birthday. 2020

December 2020: We are delighted to be awarded SRG (Start-up Research Grant) funding from SERB for a project related to the development of a portable atomic frequency standard based on Coherent Population Trapping (CPT) for quantum technology applications. Thank you SERB for supporting our project that paves the way for a portable atomic clock set-up in the near future!!

November 2020: We are delighted to secure NFSG (New Faculty Seed Grant) funding from IIT Tirupati for a project related to precision spectroscopy of mercury atoms. Thank you IIT Tirupati for supporting our project that paves the way for a cavity ring down spectroscopy (CRDS) set-up in the near future!!

November 2020: We are happy to announce that we have received generous support from IIT Tirupati under CAMOST funds to set-up a laboratory on quantum communication and quantum technology experiments involving Calcium (Ca) ions and Rubidium (Rb) atoms.

October 2020: The DPR (Detailed Project Report) for the TIH (Technology Innovation Hub) on Positioning and Precision Technologies (PPT) vertical under the NM-ICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems) submitted. Hats off to tremendous efforts from and inputs from our Director, Prof. K. N. Satyanarayana and esteemed colleagues Dr. Roshan Karan Srivastava, Dr. Panchatcharam Mariappan, Dr. Rama Krishna Sai Gorthi, Prof. G. Ravi Prakash Iyer, Dr. Hiran Vedam and many others. August 2020: We are excited to be a part of CAMOST (Center for Atomic, Molecular and Optical Sciences & Technologies), a joint initiative of IIT Tirupati and IISER Tirupati. The center was officially e-launched by Dr. Arabinda Mitra, Scientific Secretary to the Office of the Principle Scientific Advisor (PSA), Government of India on 14 August 2020, on the eve of India's 73rd Independence day. The inaugural event was organized online due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was attended by numerous distinguished AMO scientists in India and abroad. We look forward to exciting new opportunities and challenges under the CAMOST umbrella. Arijit has been nominated the Program Coordinator from IIT Tirupati for CAMOST related activities. August 2020: Arijit is excited to announce the successful application for a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) on the Positioning and Precision Technologies (PPT) vertical for the NM-ICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems) by IIT Tirupati. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), India recently awarded the TIH on the PPT vertical to IIT Tirupati with a tentative allocation of INR 100 crores. More news here:

August 2020: The Precision Measurement Lab (PML) led by Arijit is excited to announce the successful application for a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) on the Quantum Technologies (QT) vertical for the NM-ICPS (National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems) by IISER Pune. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), India recently awarded the TIH on the QT vertical to IISER Pune with a tentative allocation of INR 170 crores.  The Precision Measurement Lab (PML) led by Arijit is excited to be a part of the QT TIH led by the IISER Pune team. August 2020: Arijit and his colleagues from IIT Tirupati (Dr. Reetesh Gangwar, Dr. Shihabudheen M. Maliyekkal ) and IISER Tirupati (Dr. Vasudharani Devanathan) have received the CRG Short-term special call on COVID-19 to develop a portable sterilization unit for disinfection of PPEs (Personal Protection Equipment) against viruses, bacteria and microbes including the novel coronavirus. Congratulations to all!! 

April 2020: Arijit is undertaking research efforts along with his colleagues Dr. Reetesh Gangwar, Dr. Shihabudheen M. Maliyekkal and Prof. T. S. Natarajan in developing a disinfection unit to enable re-use of N95 masks and PPEs (Personal Protection Equipment) to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. A short video giving a snapshot of our efforts is shared here. An initial prototype is under construction with an advanced version in the pipeline.

April 2020: Arijit has been awarded the 2019-2020 Shastri Mobility Program award by the Shastri-Indo Canadian Institute (SICI) for a collaborative research visit to Dr. Amar Vutha's research group at the University of Toronto, Canada to conduct spectroscopic studies on molecules relevant to the inter-stellar medium (ISM). Exciting and fun times ahead for our collaborative ventures.


2019

18 June 2019 - 10 July 2019: Arijit visited his thesis supervisor's (Prof. Sadiq Rangwala) group at the Raman Research Institute, Bengaluru, India and spent some productive time in scientific discussions on the ongoing projects and some time working in the lab as well. He also presided over as external examiner on the comprehensive examinations for 2 students of the LAMP (Light And Matter Physics) group. He also gave a seminar on parity violation measurements using dysprosium atoms at the Raman Research Institute.


2018

December 2018:  Arijit gave a seminar on parity violation measurements in dysprosium at IUCAA Pune under the LIGO India meeting.

December 2018:     Arijit presented a poster at the AISAMP 2018 conference jointly organized by IIT Bombay and TIFR Mumbai from 3-8 December 2018.

November 2018:  Arijit gave a seminar at the LEOS unit, ISRO, Bengaluru for a meeting under the RESPOND program of ISRO.
