Water, Complexity, and the Future of Urban Resilience
WELCOME!
I am a Ph.D. student in the School of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, specializing in system-of-systems-based urban water management. I work under the supervision of Dr. Sangmin Shin at the SCIWater Lab.
My research focuses on understanding the feedback interactions and interdependencies among cyber, water, energy, transportation, and socioeconomic sectors within integrated water resources engineering. My previous and ongoing studies investigate: (1) how complex interactions between water and other interconnected sectors shape system resilience and sustainability, and (2) how engineering strategies—including system diversification and decentralization, cyber-physical systems approaches, and community participation—can enhance water sustainability and infrastructure resilience.
You may have come across my works in Springer Nature, Elsevier, Wiley, and MDPI journals, or in blogs, newspapers, and other media, or seen my talks, oral and poster presentations at the 2026 EWRI in Mobile, Alabama; the 2026 IWPC in Peoria, Illinois; the 2025 MAEEC at WashU in Missouri; RUET; CUET; and international outreach programs.

Publishing has allowed me to network with other scholars and to further refine my own ideas and research. It's something I enjoy immensely and hope that these papers will help others further their science and welcome any opportunities to collaborate.
Working in multiple projects have allowed me to build network with professionals and to further implement my own ideas and research outcomes. Combination of designing research and implement that in field is always thrilling and refining the learning.
