UPTOWN UNITED AND UPTOWN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Uptown United & the Uptown Chamber of Commerce are partner organizations that share a mission to build a strong, unified business environment; facilitate economic development; and strengthen community—all to nurture a diverse, vibrant, thriving, and strong Uptown. Uptown’s business association since 1923, the Uptown Chamber of Commerce is one of Chicago’s oldest Chambers of Commerce. While our focus is business development and promotion, we also recognize the cultural richness of our community to help make all of Uptown thrive.

CELEBRATE ARGYLE

Celebrate Argyle is a community initiative that aims to shine a spotlight on immigrant-owned restaurants and businesses in the West Argyle Historic District as a unique culinary destination, while also connecting community members to critical resources to meet pressing needs through the pandemic and beyond. Celebrate Argyle hopes to amplify the community’s rich immigrant stories, those that shape, define, and impact Asia on Argyle.

CHINESE MUTUAL AID ASSOCIATION

Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a non-profit social service agency located in Chicago’s Uptown community. CMAA’s mission is to serve the needs, promote the interests, and enhance the well-being of low-income immigrants and refugees in Chicagoland and to foster their participation in American society.

SOUTH-EAST ASIA CENTER

The South-East Asia Center (SEAC) is a community-based, educational and social service organization building bridges of understanding and cooperation amongst peoples of Old and New World cultures.
The organization serves some of the most culturally diverse immigrant neighborhoods in the United States, with over one hundred different languages spoken by residents within its service area.
SEAC’s roughly 50 staff and some 100 volunteers provide cultural, emotional, and educational aid and social services to thousands of individuals each year.

GOUDY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Goudy Technology Academy, in collaboration with students, parents, and community members, embraces a culturally diverse, technologically advanced, and respectful learning environment. We envision technology and collaboration to be integrated throughout our curriculum and in every classroom to provide all students with the 21st-century skills that will empower them to become successful leaders and productive citizens in our society.

CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY

Bezazian Branch Chicago Public LibraryHistory: Bezazian Branch opened January 26, 1957.The branch is named for Harold A. Bezazian, the son of Armenian immigrants and an aspiring writer, who enlisted in World War II and rose to the rank of lieutenant. He died March 11, 1945, a hero protecting his troops during the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines.Artwork: Photographs of the neighborhood in the late 1970s by David Gremp Exterior mural designed by Janis Pozzi and painted by a group of local children

48TH WARD ALDERWOMAN
LENI MANAA-HOPPENWORTH

Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth is the alderwoman of the 48th ward — which includes parts of Andersonville, Edgewater, and Uptown — since May 2023. Prior to taking office, Leni was a longtime local small-business owner and community organizer in the ward, where she has lived for over 20 years. She is the mother of three kids, all of whom attended Chicago Public School in the ward. The daughter of immigrants, Leni is a lifelong Chicagoan and is the first Filipina to sit on the Chicago City Council.

13TH DISTRICT STATE REPRESENTATIVE
HOAN HUYNH

State Representative Hoan Huynh (pronounced Hahn Win) is a community leader, community investments professional, entrepreneur, activist, and small business advocate representing the people of Illinois' 13th State House District, covering Northside Chicago and the lakefronts. Representative Hoan Huynh is in his first term in the Illinois House of Representatives, having been sworn in on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 in the 103rd General Assembly. Learn more here.
