Coloured tangram template:
In pairs, students select one of the following tangram puzzles. Individually, they dissect the shape into basic shapes using a tangram kit, or otherwise (e.g. drawing lines to create shapes).
Each student then compares their dissection with their partner and discuss:
Pairs then select one dissection and use it to calculate its area. They then check their answer with other pairs who have selected the same puzzle.

Hexominoes: Students can perform the same activity as Activity 1, but using Hexominoes (6 squares) instead. Explore this as a class together, or assign groups to explore 5-high, 4-high or 3-high configurations. They then cut the figures out and explore which form the nets of closed cubes.
