Getting set up with the Vara modem software

Download the current version of Vara FM or Vara HF at EA5VHK Weak signals software 

There is also a long list of excellent learning materials on that page.  Note that it is not necessary to purchase a Vara license to use the software.  But purchasing a license (lifetime) unlocks the faster speeds, and supports the creator of the software - so it is encouraged.

Getting a sound card interface

An inexpensive option that works with most radios is the DigiRig.  A SignaLink is another good option but is bigger and costs more.  You can get a DigirRig and cables at Digirig Store
