GCSE Options 2023-24

Transition from Year 9 to Year 10 is an anxious time for pupils and parents alike even in normal times. With the advent of Covid-19 we as a school tried to look at different ways of imparting information to the newest members of the school and this has continued for the current year. We will keep updating you with details about the option choice process. As part of that process we have tried to give you some key information on this site. 

Students need to think carefully about these choices as they will have a direct impact on later decisions. Their chosen pathway will open the gateway to potential Level 3 (A Level) courses and apprenticeships. Ultimately, the choices made may well influence future university routes and the world of work.

Pupils will take a mix of compulsory subject and three optional subjects. 

The compulsory subjects at Archbishop McGrath are :

Maths,  Numeracy,  Science(s),  English Language,  English Literature,  RE,  Welsh.

Pupils may be able to choose three optional subjects from:

Art , Business Studies, Computing, Drama, Product Design, French, Geography, History, Health and Social, Information Technology, Media Studies, Music, Nutrition, PE, Learning in Outdoor Education, Spanish, Prince's Trust, Skills Challenge Certificate.

The information on this website is intended to give you a brief overview of each subject/course. Meeting staff and speaking to older pupils about their experiences is the best way to find out about a new GCSE option choice.
