Adobe pyramids, such as the one in the picture, became a signature staple of Inca architecture. The Huaca Huallamarca is a great example of the Inca architecture that is preserved so amazingly. It is located in Lima's San Isidro district. The land was first settled 2000 years ago by the Hualla people and was also settled by the Inca people. The building dates back to the sixth century. The building stands out to its viewers because of its ancient contrast with the modern buildings that surround it.
During the Spanish colonial period, the site was forgotten. It was discovered and excavation started in the 1950s. There is a small museum filled with artifacts such as dolls, pottery and mummified remains that were found on the excavation site.
It is believed that the name of the site is derived from a local god of protection. Another name for the site is Huaca Pan de Azucar. It is believed that the structure itself was a temple of high rank.
As the urbanization of the Lima culture increased, the site was abandoned as a temple and the building was used as a cemetery. It was used as a settlement for the Inca later on.
