Aasmaan
“Aasmaan” or “Open Skies” is inspired by Indian miniature paintings. A woman gazing out of her jharoka (window) overlooking a beautiful palatial garden is drawn to colorful kites in the sky. While she seems lonely and trapped in her surroundings, the kites signify freedom and spirit. The film represents her aspirations as she sets the kite free.
This short film is a part of my masters thesis in which the intent was to explore and interpret the qualities of a traditional two dimensional (2D) Indian art form called Miniature painting in a three-dimensional (3D) medium. I have tried to retain the visual expression of miniature paintings in order to evoke a similar mood in the animation.

Enlightened
This project was done as a group project for the Summer Industry course in 2007 when I was in Visualization Sciences program at Texas A&M University. We worked on it as a team from story development, pre-production to rendering and post-processing. This was done in collaboration with Reel FX Studio from Dallas. I was involved in the story, concept drawings, rigging of one of the story characters and lighting for some of the scenes in the story.
Software used: Autodesk Maya, Pixar Renderman, Shake
Jaadoo
I created this project for a compositing course that I took in Spring 06 when I was in the Visualization Sciences program at Texas A&M University.
The toy plane is computer generated including it’s shadows, reflection and refraction. The background is a real environment that I shot using a digital SLR camera. I recreated some of the environment as a set in Maya and matched the camera angle, shadow color, lighting and other details in my CG set. I rendered the images and composited it using layers in AfterEffects.

Snapchat AR effects, aka Lenses, created in 2023. Software used - Lens Studio
