CATHOLIC SCHOOLS NSW Sport AQUATHLON RULES
1. The Catholic Schools NSW Sport Aquathlon will be conducted in accordance with World Triathlon Competition Rules, which can be accessed here: Documents • World Triathlon
2. The main rules that students, parents and teachers should be aware of for the Catholic Schools NSW Sport Aquathlon include the following:
a) Once athletes are in position, the start will be indicated by a whistle or horn blast and can be given any time after the Technical Delegate announces “On Your Mark”
b) In the event of a mass false start, there will be several whistle or horn blasts and everyone goes back to her/his spot.
i) If there is one or a couple of people who false start and can be identified, the race will continue and then these athletes will be given a 10 second time penalty in transition.
c) In the pool swim leg, students must stay on the same side of the lane in which they start (no circle swimming or crossing over the black line). This rule only applies if students are sharing a lane.
i) Unsportsmanlike swim behaviour can result in either a time penalty or a DQ (depending on nature of offence)
d) Students need to make sure that all used equipment is placed in their allocated transition box at the end of the swim leg (i.e. swim cap and goggles).
i) Failure to do so may result in a 10 second time penalty in transition.
e) Students must have their torso covered on the run course.
i) Failure to do so may result in a disqualification
f) Cross Country Rules and Regulations apply for the run course (e.g. competitors must remain on the prescribed course; no outside assistance is able to be received, no impeding other competitors’ progress).
i) Failure to adhere to these rules/regulations may result in disqualification
2. Follow direction of technical officials and course marshals
Where possible, a technical official or course marshal will provide the athlete the opportunity to correct the behaviour, however disqualification may occur if instruction not followed (e.g. leaving transition without the torso being covered).
